These do tend to break unfortunately
But if you use a small open ended spanner, you can push the end in with that and release the connection. You may have to remove what's left of the outer push buttons and plastic to reveal the collar bit that you need to push in.
This is what I have done on my mk5 Escort, which may or may not have similar fittings.

The return may still be high pressure? if not then you could use rubber fuel hose and jubilee clips.
And if they are available from Fords, doubtful, they would most prob cost a small fortune, if the price of current hp fuel lines are anything to go by!

If you struggle to remove it with the outer cover still on, you can butcher the cover off which makes it much easier to undo. Once cover is off, push the pipe into the fitting whilst also pushing the ring around inwards, then gently slide the pipe out. To refit just push the pipe back into the fitting.

Thanks the system is not pressurised i did manage to break the outer cover on the connection at the front of the tank but was not sure if it could still be used so if all fails then i will just break the cover on the one nearest the sender unit then re-use it.
Can i use jubilee clips and fuel hose on a fuel return hose or is it a no no?
Thanks
