Default Missus Focus went up in smoke!!

The missus has a mk1 focus, done 150k, ran pretty mint tho and was a good car!!

Well, until this;

The Fire Bridage were brilliant, there within minutes!! The AA were a bunch of useless cunts tho!! The fella she spoke to on the phone couldnt speak English very well so she gave the phone to the copper, he spoke for a bit then passed the phone to the Fire Cheif who cleared the car to be collected by a flat bed!! Took them two hours to get her, only for the fella to say he werent touching it because 'ive got dinner in two hours, dont want me or me truck covered in shit' He claimed the wheels wouldnt turn, which is total bollox!! She had to then wait a further hour n half for Ontime to pick it up with a hi ab!! They never even gave her a lift home, she werent far but they pretty much left her stranded there!! And the AA said that because it was a hi ab collecting her, she would be liable to pay, surely that aint right??

Lucky escape when the focus was first released they had a problem with water getting in the alternator causing fires wonder if that has caused this.
Most were recalled and a modified part fitted on the back of the alternator to try and stop this happening.

Yea she did have a lucky escape!! Properly scared the shit out of her!! Could have been mate, Fire Brigade just said that it was most likely a electrical fault but couldnt tell where it started!!

So long as she is ok, this is why I believe every car should carry a fire extinguisher, clearly it started in the engine bay!

I think you have a excellent case if sent a bill, as AA/RAC etc are classed as INSURANCE policies, that's why we all pay insurance tax on them.
Imo, ime you are not liable for anything but can claim from them if your wife needed a taxi etc to get home, there are rules about picking up accident damaged cars where they can't be easily moved, due to damage, clearly this isn't the case, but is the reason he mentioned the wheels wouldn't turn, odd how it got there, or taken away subsequently.
Glad your wife is ok, shame as it looked a really clean example of focus, but main thing she's ok.
I've always found the which.co.uk legal phone helpline invaluable, if you're in which ?

Yea shes was ok, luckily her dad was with her so she werent alone!! Shes filed a complaint with the AA, just waiting to hear back, if they try and charge her for recovery then they'l have to take us to court!! They shd have the recording of the fire chief giving the car the all clear!!

I bought her a mk4 polo yesterday, dont think its worth claiming on her insurance, shes got Ł300 excess, and the car can only be worth Ł800 max!! Plus she will loose her 4 years ncb!!

Just gotta sort the storage out, i think the AA have the car now, so no doubt being charged Ł30 a day + VAT!! The car has Ł70 worth of petrol put in about 20 miles before it went bang

Cheers for the replies lads!!

Yea she did shit herself, luckily she reacted quick, pulled over safely and got out!! I dropped the new car off to her yesterday and she didnt wanna sit in it or anything, she was worried about driving incase it happened again!! I told her if she got the train to work shes dumped and im taking the car back, safe to say she drove to work and was mint!!

The AA are a bunch of cunts, wish id have been there as he would have been taking the car!!

The insurance want Ł450 excess so no point claiming at all!! The storage fees them come down to us, its ony Ł7 a day + VAT due it being a AA job apprantly, but the cheeky fuckers want Ł75 to weigh it in!! Ive got access to a truck but cant get down there til sat week, so the fees will be Ł110 inc VAT, Ł40 on diesel, is it worth me scrapping it or jus paying the Ł75 plus 2 days storage???

Cant you pay the storage fees and get a local scrap place to collect it and weigh it in ? Scrap places round here will come and collect the car so if you can find someone like that it saves you the hassle of sorting out the truck yourself

Cheers mate!! Ive got a mate of a mate going to get it Friday, fees should be under Ł50, then jus sort him a drink!! Just didnt wanna line there pockets!! Ive passed the message on, she cant believe random people on a car forum are saying well done to her!!! She said it was natural reaction to pull over, i said most people who have jus jumped on the brakes where they was possibly causing a accident and blocking the road for hours!!

Mac/Brian, cheers lads!! Shes ok but my wallet aint
