Hi Dick Cock, its totally your choice depending if you want a pretty new FWD powerhouse or an older rwd sport saloon.

You wont buy either tho, you'll just bleat on putting up repetitive pointless threads about them and various other cars you wont buy for another 5+ years

yeh i can totally agree with that

but a good well speced m3 is a super fantastic car to look at and drive

and if you compair every component from each car the m3 will always come out on top

the m devision is a little more advanced than fords rs

but as its a ford forum then the focus will always get the thumbs up as do the 20+ year old sierras lol

It all depends what he wants tho as both are total different cars... I'd probably have the M3... As I bought a mk2 FRS brand new... It's a totally wicked car with plenty of power on tap and handled well...however after a yeAr of ownership I sold it to buy a concourse 3dr and a mk1 FRS ...

LOL yes so much so that the contemporary M3 was beaten by the Cosworth in every single respect, along with all other rivals!

Tbh you can't really compare the two, E46 M3 is comparable to MK1 FRS not the MK2 imo in terms of value, E46 is nothing special, affordable cars now, don't get me wrong this isn't to say they are not good cars, but the MK2 and E46 and in two completley different price brackets, even for a second hand one I should think. So the thing about Ford depreciation is the complete opposite to what your saying as they are only going to appreciate in price more so then they already have!

not saying the E46 aint a good motor and defo not saying the frs is a better car as there both wicked in differant ways but

DONT beleave all the hype about BMW's build quality because its just not true imho, my parent's have had 2 x E46's from new and the bodywork need's something to be desired, after 4 yrs rust blisters was apearing over most panels and the front wings were terible, he went to 2 differant bodyshops to get them painted before selling on and was told that there prone to this, these are both car's that's never been accident damaged and always looked after and also keeped garaged, saying this i actually luv the M3,

cant coment on the mk2 frs as i know nothing about them as it's a mk1 i have and will defo be keeping for a while yet,

your right lol they cant be compaired

the m3 is by far a better car than a ford focus be it a rs or not lol

im a massive ford fan but also a m powered car

there are guys out there running 600+ bhp on standard engines

and over 1200 on worked engines lol

the focus rs is a good car dont get me wrong on that and i would have one

there was a thread a little while ago with the same thing about sierra cosworths being better than an m3

now come on thats just daft

but like i said silly asking these questions on a ford based web site

Just because it has a supposedly "Prestige" badge at the front dosen't account for nothing, for example just look at the chronic wheel cracking failures they had as of late.

I never driven one or anything but for sure they SHOULD be better built etc, thats what you pay for, thats the whole thing about Fast Fords, performance that is avaliable at a reasonable price in comparison to such rivals.

As to the M3 well that is FACT not opinion, faster, bigger etc and better as an all round car, this was true with all other rivals as well, by this of course I am talking about the E30, trying to compare a Cosworth to something like the E46 with such a huge age gap it's just daft on a car that is so much further technologically advanced!

I do remember that thread but I think it was more along the lines of this one what should I buy, and I personally (and have) got the Cosworth over an M3, I am in no way biased and like various cars like the M3, especially the new E9x .

Exactly, This is the 2 he wanted to know about and not a newer M3 or older RS so they can be compaired to see what suits him

Even though they are worlds and years apart and current value aside I would rather have the M3 anyday.Surely a more fair comparison would be the Mk2 FRS and the E92 M3 in terms of cost and age as they are very similer at the moment.

Not driven a Mk2 FRS but driven a friends E46 M3 and loved it. Repair bills would worry me on the M3 though

You set yourself up for these jokes really eh?

Come on you need to man up and go buy one and enjoy it. You are comparing 2 very different cars there and I guess different budgets.

I'm not sure what FRS prices are now or even what the latest E36 is worth(06 plate I think?)

I have been from my FRS to an Evo 8 FQ330 and now have an E46 M3.

E46 is a fantastic car in every way. I can't fault mine at all.

It depends what you need a car for and what you want. 2 different beasts.

I like both cars to look at and drive, the focus has crap plastics and the bm on the whole isnt as well made as it should be(rusting already) for the money they were new, but saying that they are both very good motors. just buy both and be done with it

an E46 M3 wings are aluminium as well as other panels so cant really say they are rust buckets.
