I have a 3dr and an E46 M3.

I shifted through my FRS>evo8 to M3 and now I have it I dont know why I'd ever want to insure my 3dr again

AWESOME car. People love to hate them but fuck that!

Watch for the all important running in service. Rear subframe issues are not uncommon but were done on recall.

Pro's:
Fast enough, classy, comfortable, good looking

Con's:
Nothing worth mentioning really

Insurance, 31, clean license, blah blah, drive way, £550 I think. I'll grab a pic

Is it manual or smg? Mine is manual. TBH it can be a strange gear shift and you feel the diff clunk but thats just how they are.

When fucking about they handle so well in a slide

They are reasonably good on fuel also. 31 mpg on a run. Normal 25 ish.

Wouldn't have thought a 2002 M3 would have been worth the same as a 3dr... however, it depends on the spec/condition of the cars to some extent I suppose.

the main thing for me is the fact the m3 will depreciate like a bomb i cant see them holding on like the e30s did, whereas the 3 door will always demand a premium unless its getting ropey ?

My 3 door is a very clean . ive spent over 10k on it since ive owned it , as for the value im sure the 3 door will hold its value and the bmw will drop but its not about money for me its about getting from a/b without worrying

cant see the e46 m3 ever depreciating terribly....
good clean e36 m3's are now worth quite a bit more than they were 2 years ago and will only go up in value.
i wish e46 m3's would plummet in value-i could maybe buy another one then!!

Only thing that puts me off about these are the cost of parts and servicing. Pretty sure prices are doubled because it has an "m" in the name.

Still love one though

Ive just brought one myself, had a stage 3 3door a few years back and loved it but hated the cost of keeping it going. The m3 is a great car, nice place to be, quick, reliable, look awesome, and not to expensive to run so far. I do miss the turbo punch ive been used to though, you really have to thrash the arse of them to get the most of them, i also think the brakes are absolute shit and as lambchop said there a bit clunky when changing gear which isnt great.

Haha hardly tenuous if you spotted it

Looks pretty much like my nick name to me and without the use of silly screws

Is this one any better?

You should get involved and buy "MR5 6 LMB" as a wee treat for Mrs Chop.

Cheers,
Grant

*Edit... just realised your better half spells it with a J rather than a G, however, I've gone to the trouble of uploading it all now so I'll certainly not be deleting it!!

Hmmm have you got any more info on this mate?

My post maybe sounds worse than it is. It's hard to explain without letting you drive it

Gonna get that checked anyways

Not necessarily at all.

The transmission shunt through that box is quite brutal...

Mine:

Best car I have ever owned. Astounding how much time and money I wasted on modifying Cosworths instead of just buying one of these!

Heres my E46 M3

And heres my saph..

Now keep both! I love them both in diffrent ways! The M3 is a proper driving car and can be thrown about country lanes with sooo much confidence. but also looks great.
Where as the cossie is just good for getting sideways and boosting on straights

To be honest I bank loaned most of the M3 and pay off £220 a month for it. Im only 25 and lifes too short not to have what i want. Im due a new C-class company car soon though so will be selling the M3 and paying rest of loan off and banking the rest. Im gutted as i love it but would be mad to have 2 everyday cars and a cossie
