Can take up to 4 weeks but I would ring and check Gus,as most normally come through in about a week, thats if the dvla will give you any info as they love to quote the data protection act, even if you car you enquring about if you get the wrong person
Just call the dvla, they wont give you info, but you can give it to them and they will confirm, ie is the car registered in my name/address yet?
If not, download the v62 iirc and send it off to apply for it.
You could always call the seller and ask if they have sent it away as they can be fined for not informing the dvla and so if you politely enquire with them on the pretence you didn't want to drop them in it, they may suddenly remember they had forgot and get it sent off.

Varies massively, I have just spent the best part of 6 MONTHS getting(trying) a V5 copy from my old car for the person who now has the engine from it, he needs to prove age for a IVA on his kit car, the copies were nearly all black and ilegibal(sp), IVA people now satisfied with a letter from dvla confirming reg and age/engine number, but what a run around, pisses me off when they have the same bloody access to the info!!
