HI
As the car is lowered it is very difficult to get a camera underneath without jacking it up!
It is mint underneath!! I am a body repairer in a restoration garage so i know rot when i see it!!
The footwell picure is of the spaceframe that the car has!! To stop the body-roll!! (it's also in the photo with the back seat!!) Which with the 60mm lowering springs really does make it handle better than a standard XR!!

seen this on pistonheads as he wants an escort rst ideally but i know he is not upto looking after one as he travels 200+ miles to work in the army so wouldnt go far very often but then he suggested this which i thought was ok needed a price drop till i seen the floor now it just wants weighing in

It's definitely crude - but that doesn't necesarily mean that the car is rotten.
I'd be more worried that the seller bullshitted you with the 'spaceframe/handling' comment. If he'd have just said "It was as rotten as a pear, so we cut the floor out and fixed it with some hefty box section" Iit wouldn't be so bad.

so he's in a restoration garage and can't be arsed to get it on a ramp or even a jack (which would take all of 2 mins) for a couple of pics.
not only is he a bull shitter but i recon its still got lots of rot!

i like the ad especially the bit that you wont find a better car
IF YOU ARE AFTER A CAR THAT HAS LOOK'S AND IS STILL A VERY ECONOMICAL CAR TO USE DAILY THEN THIS IS IT!!!!
Ford Escort RS Turbo with a twist !!!
Ford RS Turbo diesel
10 months M'O'T.
6 months tax
Ford escort XR3I shell with 90 spec RS turbo trim inc.
RS body kit
White 90 spec spoiler.
RS bonnet with vents.
RS White Dials
RS Spotlights
RS Wheels
90 Spec front bumper
All genuine RS part's!!
The engine is a 1.8 diesel Turbo. That absolutely flies!!
The car was originally an XR3I (i.e petrol) but now has a 1.8 diesel engine fitted.
The Engine is out of a 1998 R reg escort turbo diesel.
It was Well serviced recently inc
New Cam belt
New Fuel pump belt
New water pump
New C.V. boots
New alternator belt
New oil filter
New oil etc etc.
The engine is very very good and starts first time every time!!
It has a full diesel sports exhaust fitted as well.
It sounds really great!!
You can't even tell it's a Diesel.
The turbo has been really nicely fitted and sounds really great!!!
It really does pick up and goes!!
As it's an 1800 diesel its cheaper to insure too!!!
The car has also been lowered on 60 mm springs and sits really well !!!
The car has also been spaced framed inside to stop body roll and has been very neatly Done and well thought out!!
With all the carpets cut and replaced back in.
The interior is mint The front seats are superb with no holes.
The body and paint work is exceptional!!
The car also has a really good alarm and immobiliser fitted with central locking.
I have also just had a new window screen fitted with a built in sun visor strip on the top!!!
Every where you go people always look at it. As it is absolutely stunning!!
Can supply extra photo's of the car if needed.
YOU WONT FIND A BETTER CAR!!!
As I have said the body-work and paint is mint, The interior is mint, And the engine is mint.
I am only selling due to the fact I have just brought a metro turbo and I cant drive both at the same time!!
Or I would keep it as it is that good!!
YOU WONT FIND A BETTER CAR !!!!

Too many posts.. I need a life!!
wow just found this thread!
i never saw this thread before, though i shall state it wasnt me who was selling the car,i bought it
phoned him up to arrange a viewing on his description which seemed good though never seen a pic of the space frame though didnt sound good to me on the phone! though i thought it was worth a viewing,
seller description to the truth
i looked at the space frame and to be honest it doesnt bother me one bit and whoever fitted it fairplay they have done an awesome job not bodged whatsoever
i spent an haur and half looking at the car and was all over it,i could not knock the shell, every panel original ford no rot only minor bubbling behind sunroof,NEVER WELDED UNDERNEATH the thing was covered in that much waxoil underneath and had all the cavitys injected too
the engine ran sweet no smoke and overall a very very good car,the lad who i bought it off was a plum if im honest! after a little haggling i bought it
was one of them cars where you view and you know it has a few issues but you know its right and a good base
the story is it used to be a trackcar which underneath tells the tale as it has rear anto drop bar i wil get a pic up later but a very good idea if you ask me,front adjustable camber on tca arm mounts
firstly i got it up on the ramps to see what i had bought and could not beleive what a shell it was only thankful to the guy who waxoiled it anually by the looks of it
ran it for a bit, replaced the clears for ambers
new glow plugs and battery
then after a few electrical starting issues it was time to pull the dash out
2 alarms removed and a old immobiliser, all rewired to factory internally,
then onto engine wiring!! removed cooker wiring ffs
anyway after following various wires going inside and metering a few we knew where we were and a fresh bay wire for the td lump was needed which we sorted
finally all wired properly to minimal wiring which was needed we fitted a toad ai606 cat 1 alarm
then onto the fuelling marc at MEDWAY rs centre sorted me a correct onion derv tank and sender cheers mate
new front half derv lines to pump added
now not cutting out round bends
then internally replaced speakers and threw the xr3i seats in the bin for some recaros
2 trackrod ends and tracking,2 rear shocks and oil and filter later shes smoking down the m62 70 mile a day loving it!! been to corwall in it too
then we look at why its slow for a td seems as the engine used to have a ecu they did away with it and fitted a single solenoid thogu never touched the fuelling to compenate what the ecu did,
few tweaks later shes spinning the wheels
swapped the wheels to some superleggeras and added some smoked/red rear lights
i use it daily and love it, i also have a s1 rs and had previous mk4s so knew what to look for when i bought it
AND TO CLEAR THINGS UP,THE FLOORS ARE ORIGINAL AND NOT RUSTY AND NEVER WELDED TOO!
thanks for reading heres a few pics now of her though i have a rs ford rallye sport top strip and is not showing the rear lamps ive fitted but you get the idea,
i plan on doing away with the xr3i wondow black and firring black bumper strips so i havent finished yet and heres my series 1 ive built from a shell too

seller description to the truth
- mint seats.................worn on foam bolsters only good for scrap and xr items
- good alarm system.........................crap autowatch with taped up fob and no siren
- genuine rs parts......................fibreglass skirts
- mint paint..........................bonnet painted on cleethorpes beach
- professionally fitted td engine with correct diesel gearbox......................engine catapulted in and wired in via national grid with 2 zillion foot of wire running a xr3i box which i suspected
- fuelling sorted properly ........................................xr3i efi tank with internal pump removed and pipe picking up and YES IT STARVED ROUND CORNERS!!!!! had to get out and manually prime it

cheers guys,i wasnt overkeen with the description but checking the car out it was one of the better ones,i knew it had a few bodges but overlooked them and now more than happy with it,has loads of grunt well enough anyway for a daily user,
the superleggeras were a bit of a find at Ł150 with good tyres in the next town too well i thought so,
i plan on doing away with the black and bump strips next when i finish the s1 off
at least the 3i came into good hands as i dont think anyone would have done the work to it that i have
cheers again guys

go look at it, wrost case you dont buy it
could just be someone who likes welding things
can easy cut it out and its obvious whats been done to it once you look at it

used to be a petrol but your guess is as good as mine,i own the car and i honestly think its overkill, the framework has been welded to the front seat horizontal mount,
i guess you could remove it but it seriously doesnt bother me, as i mentioned i bought the car on the condition of the shell like any old ford you but on the shell mainly
it even was commented on by the mot tester who could not beleive how good it really was and passed mot with an advisiory of a nick on an inner cv boot and a nail in a tyre so well pleased at that,
the performance isnt blistering quick it gets to 90 then runs out of steam to be honest! i am putting this down to running the xr3i box still
