Just half watching an old Wheeler Dealers program and Ed has just changed the track rod ends on a TVR. After he had cracked the lock nut undone he started counting the turns to remove the old rod end so that when he fitted the new part he would no how many turns to get it back in the original position and therefore not upset the tracking. What i am wondering is why he didn't just undo the lock nut the bare minimum to break the initial contact between the old rod end and the nut and then remove the old rod end then just wind the new one up to the lock nut (i.e. using the lock nut as a stop).
its good enough for an estimate, well actually thats bollocks even. its good enough if you're fucking blind thats about all, either way it needs tracking again so either do it by eye, or do it like that, neither is more accurate unless you buy OEM
