Default Is it just me.....

Nopt sure if its just me but I really hate scoobys with a passion!!

Don't want to offend anyone that owns one!

Its just people that own them think they are the greatest car ever!!

Show off driving round town everywhere!

Personally I think they are poor mans evo's!

They all sound and look the same aswell!!!

Give me a cossie or focus Rs anyday. I no which one would get more looks!!

Won't win me many fans this I don't think haha!

your posting this on a ford site.

everyone on here thinks the cosworth is the greatest thing since sliced bread even though its just a simple iron blocked twincam with a turbocharger, theres nothing remotely special about it. Just like the impreza isnt amazing, yes using a boxer engine to try and lower the center of gravity is a good idea which in turn made it resonably successful at rallying but again it never really brought anything to the table that showed real innovation.

You see people wearing the 555 jackets and laugh, but then go to a ford show and see them all wear RS gear so they are as bad as each other.

I suppose in one regard you have to admire subaru for their continuation of the brand as they have refind and developed it over the years where ford gave up on the cosworth along time ago.

Personally I dont see what the big deal with anything ford have produced in the last 20yrs, but on that note there are little sparks of talent in what subaru have done. which do i think is better, well if we look at potential outright speed then what ford have produced in rallycross recently is impressive but then that has nothing to do with 99% of the production stuff avaliable to the general consumer. subaru at least have listened to customer demand and kept producing what the consumer demanded

Like turbotoaster said its a ford site so i guess everyone would say there kinda shit. I guess you have brought this up from the muppet room where last night some people said things.

But IMO everywhere i do go the scoobys are driven by chavs and i do hate the cars for that, i dont think they have the same look as a cossie does nor when you tell people what car you have. If someone told me they had a evo or cossie i would want to talk about them but if they said they have a scooby i would just think "oh... lets move on"

But saying allllllllll this would i think different if i owned a scooby from day one? Maybe not?

An intelligent, articulate and reasoned response. It's all getting 'my dad's bigger than yours' lately. A shame really, the Cosworth in it's day was an icon and to some extent still is. Subaru had their moments and to be honest both marques have lost their way a little. However it would be nice if people could just enjoy their cars without resorting to barely literate, inane and mis-spelt rantings on various forums.

Im a Ford man myself but i like all road going rally reps, the impreza was a great rally car and is a weapon of a road car,i aint going to change my opinon due to some chavs being able afford them.If so i wouldnt have an RS turbo as most where driven by chavs, its not the cars fault.PS Give me a cossie or focus Rs anyday or 22B,P1 etc.

most people that have scoobys/evo's that are on here have already done the rs thing mainly cosworth so when you'v had cosworths you have to try something else after.
As you say chavs drive scoobs well take a look at some of the poor examples of cosworths on here mainly saphs as they became cheap everyone could afford them and thats why i won't have another. Ford havent made anything worth buying since the escort cos.

so i guess i'll not win anything either with my view

ROFL!

I have a V1 STi as my daily hack, very minimum tweaks to make a safe and reliable 320bhp.

It looks great, is a stiff but not crashy ride, very supportive seats. Not the last word in luxury, but well equipped and well screwed together. Handles superbly, brakes are great, easy 30mpg+ when not being ragged. Can't fault it to be honest. Far more user friendly and easy to live with than any other performance car of it's type and with its low gearing it really does FLY.

For me, living in the country where it's all twisty road everywhere, it's the perfect car to be honest.

Well either you've driven one from time to time and aren't keen... or you're as bad as this bloke. Hate is a strong word, and making a judgement on something you've not tested personally is absolutely ridiculous IMO. When I say tested, I don't mean just a quick 10-15min test drive in something... for me to hate something I've got to either have personal experience through driving cars owned by friends and family or ownership, but then everyone's different.

I hate Pug 205s because I bought one and it was a complete shed of shit... I dislike most french cars and am unlikely to buy one on the strength of my experience, but I'd never say that I hated a 306 GTi-6, Clio 172, etc etc because I've never actually owned one or gotten to drive one for a reasonable length of time.

For the record, I've owned six Imprezas and I'm not a blinkered Impreza tosser... I don't own any 555 clothing and have never bought a Scoobydoo cuddly toy to stick on my parcel shelf. But, I truely believe that a well driven, lightly modified Impreza is one of the quickest cross country cars available, at any budget level.

Cheers,
Grant

It was a battered old WRX import with siezed calipers and rust everyware that paved the way to cosworth ownership for me....

I paid a grand for it and I can honestly say that it was excellent value for money (it even had a fully recon engine and box with zero miles on them)

A grand more would have bought me quite a clean example!

Scoobys do have a chavy immage and to be fair they look pretty crap BUT they go extremely well out of the box and they are peanuts to buy and mod!

If I had to pick between my saff and a scoob as an every day car, I recon the scoob would come out on top as its easier to live with and quicker point to point....But the saff is a second car so I love the fun element of it, plus in a streight line, i've not came accross a scoob that can live with the saff

Horses for courses really, I just prefer the saff over the scoob

I like Subaru's - my missus wanted one as our family car a couple of years ago and it was perfect (apart from MPG) and a godsend in the winter snow - for a performance car i wouldn't know, our's was a PPP 260bhp so nothing special.

I do like the look of the new Cosworth version and i just wished Ford had as much enthusiasm as Subaru to progress on there best seller instead of just making boring models. I know it may be better cost effective to produce base models but where the excitement for what is one of the worlds biggest vehicle manufacturers

I'd take a scooby over a cossie every day of the week. The only reason the cossie is 'so good' is because cosworth made it good. Take cosworth a way and what have you got left? a sierra or escort with a bodykit. woopy fuckin do.

i'd stick with the XR3i if i were you. probably more reliable than both !

and the award for dumbest post of 2011 so far goes to.....

Cosworth supplied the engine and "sorted" the car in general, that's what makes it a Sierra/Escort Cosworth.

Take the engine out of any Impreza WRX/STi, Evo, Integrale etc etc etc and replace it with one from a base spec model and all you're left with is a Subaru Impreza, Mitsubishi Lancer or Lancia Delta with a bodykit. And your point is?

Take the 5-pot turbo engine out of a new Focus RS, slap a 1.6 in there and what have you got? A Focus with a bodykit.

Need I go on?

No one's asking you to "take away" the bit that makes any car good, so it has no relevance!

And as for an XR3i being more reliable.....

Now you certainly DO sound like someone who's a bit peeved at not being able to afford a Cosworth, Scooby or similar.....

I like some Subaru Impreza's too, in fact I had one for a few years which I used to use everyday whilst I used to use my Esc Cos on a weekend but that was going back many many years ago and times have changed quite a bit since then

Cheers, that one's mine.

For the record I'm a 36 year old professional and as RS Grant, do not own any 555 clothing or the cuddly toy.

I started out with fords and progressed through to evo's which was the car I'd always wanted. A year and a half ago I made the choice to 'downgrade' and bought myself a mark 5 Golf Gti. It wasn't quick enough so even though I'd never liked scoobs, seeing them as chav mobiles, RS Gus bought his and I quite liked the look of it. We worked out it was cheaper to run, with the 2 litre blob engine being capable of 400bhp without any need for strengthening the internals.

I started looking and found myself the blue blob, which is the best example I had seen and the best one I've seen to date. The thing is I've been massively pleased with it since I got it. It's lightly modded, running 323/326 so good fun on a run out, and with it's condition gets nice comments everywhere it goes (apart from several from FORDMAD, who seems to have taken an exception to it).

A member of a car enthusiasts forum, claiming to hate another performance car, is really the thing I struggle to get my head round. Fordmad, have you ever had a proper performance car? and I'm not referring to a rusty heap with an incorrectly fitted exhaust boasting the biggest sub in the carpark. I personally love the tidy fords, not interested in the crap heaps, just the really clean ones like RSMats cossie. That's lovely.

You really need to get a grip mate and let go of the scooby thing. It's making you look a dick.

Few pics of my scoob, to show I'm not displaying a poor mans evo or a rusty heap. Not on the right forum I realise, but I'm sure there's a few on here that will appreciate how clean it is.

iv got both mate a mk1 focus rs and an sti type r thats ballistic cant help drive it fast it loves it... and to come on here and say a stupid thing like that when you drive an xr3 well thats just jelousy mate, sounds to me like you tryed to give him a go off the lights and he muffed you. im sure if you got handed the keys to a scoob youd be exactly the same as anycunt else.

Get back in your box numb nuts. My point was, i'd rather have a subaru than a poxy sierra or escort with or without the cossie badge or big engine. Try reading before you post next time. oh and don't forget, cosworth did a subaru too, quick, get even more excited for the goons.

Fyi, i can afford a cossie, i just have better things to waste my money on.

I like certain aspects about the scoob/evo, same as I do about the cossie, the scoob/evo interiors are way better imo than cossie, but very ordinary, behind the wheel could be any jap car, the cossi interior is not very good imo but I prefer it.
I don't wear ANYTHING RS or even ford, I even have a "chipped" key, and a fiesta key ring, the reason is if I drop my keys somewhere then any pikey will be hunting fiestas!!
I find scoobs way too common, see them everyday droning with the same annoying tone, when was the last time you saw a cossie ?

I rather like the Scooby if i wanted a fast road car to use on a regular basis & was faced with a Scoob or a Cossie its the Scoob every time. Its a far better package to live with. As for which one is faster its as always how much can you afford to spend. Cars like women are personal preference.

Tabetha thats my point. I must see 5-6 scoobys a day! Some I see are nice and I do see why people have them, their fast, reliable etc etc!!

I may only drive an XR3i but I guarentee parked next to a scooby I would get more looks I don't care what people say on here!

Rach108 I never said anything bad about your car personally! It does look clean and even to someone who dosnt like them (me) its one of the better ones ive seen, but in the pic next to your mates 3 door it just looks common!

Cossies may not be as fast as the big spec scoobys or as reliable but thats what makes them so much more interesting!!

you don't see 5-6 like mine. You may see lots of WRX's and classics. It's the same as seeing 100 Focus's a day then 1 RS.

I haven't bought my car for how many people look at it. I bought it for the performance.

You're wrong. There is nothing common about my car. It's the aggressive way you've gone about slating it. Each to his own but to say it should be illegal to have it in the same pic is something a donut would say and wasn't very nice considering they'd spent all day on both cars and I was putting pics up of both.

Fair enough. Which do you prefer to drive? Scoob or Cossie?

I got to say rach108 you do have a nice car but its just not for me, i will admit ive never been in one but the looks just put me off doing soo.

Its each to there own or the world would be a boring place!
exactly. Each to his own.

The thing that riled me about him was some of his derogatory comments whilst standing in a glass house. I like lots of cars, some don't appeal to me, but not once have I jumped behind my keyboard and slagged off someone else's vehicle (unless I'm retaliating).

doesnt matter what you drive mate, nothing wrong with an XR3i. i think maybe you just worded your post incorrectly. i can see both sides of the arguement!
i'm not overly keen on scoobys but can appreciate a nice well looked after car of any type.
like a lot of people have said, its personal preference
