I love mine apart from the noise, always think they sound like VW campavans. But they just don't seem to have that something special that a cosworth does. I wounder if 15-20 years ago the owners of Lancia deltas used to say the same about cosworth's being common and driven by chavs? For me I love any car that cut it in the WRC and Subaru managed to win the WRC three times in a row how many times did the Escort and Sierra win the title!

Really?? ...you guarantee it?? Let's look at the evidence:

........they are all standard UK models above. You might have a point with the newer Hatch Imprezas though, because they take a lot of work to just look 'ok' IMO.

i appreciate any nice cars but scoobys no offence but i find them shit! since i ever had a ford in all my driving years i must have raced atleast 50scoobys being how common they are and NONE of them have beat me. i have sat with cossie owners and scoobys have ALWAYS got left for dead.
cossies are the beasts from the 90s and its great knowing that they are still proving that they are the true jap killing machines.
when you see a scooby its just a scooby there common cars theres too many about where as cossies are rare and then pack good power because over the years owners have modded em.... i own a zetec turbod series 2 and NEVER has a scooby kept up on the roads. again no offence to any scooby owners . 2 of my family members own scoobys the clasic shape and they just cant keep up with the cossies at tracks

We have one of each. The scoob is my wife's car and is used everyday and my saff is kept for nice weather and weekends. I really don't see what the problem is with Subaru haters. They are a fantastic drivers car and very reliable. I have a genuine love for all rs fords but there's a few other individual cars that get my attention such as scoobys, evo's and intergrale's. Don't get me wrong I'm not one of these saddo's with the hat, jacket, umbrella, gloves, yellow writing and my name in the back windows, but I do like a quick car

Can't be arsed to read it all but a 3i is a shitbox car, crap and behind the times when it came out in 1980!!!the mk1 golf gti pissed all over it in every single aspect, and it was 5 years old at the time.if,as I'm assuming yours is,a mk4 that was even worse,FFs a 1990 car putting out a mind-blowing 110bhp,about 50bhp less than a mk2 astra gte 16v,even the 1984 1.8 put out more than that, the 2.0l did 130bhp,power steering, just as shit handling etc.
Back in my day,the 3i was so shit it was the ULTIMATE chavs car, everyone had Kevin and Tracy across the top of the screen, the only reason they have any kudos now is cos they were so badly built that to find one that hasn't rusted to nothing is a major achievement,so if yours is clean, then it's a shrewd investment.
I've had both and the scooby is incomparable in every way, their such good cars, mine got pummelled everyday, never broke, never failed to start, handled like they were on rails,as fast as you like and IMO a lovely looking car,I'd swap my Cossie in a flash for a 2door scooby and never look back.

Pure jealousy on your behalf, you'd need a zetec turbo in your 3i to even keep up with a standard scooby and that's in a straight line,I can't see what mods you could do to a mk3/4 escort to even attempt to catch one round a bend.

Yes,focus rs's and evo's maybe better in the looks department but neither beat the scoob round the top gear track and a Ł3k scooby will easily hold it's own against a Ł10-12k escos or focus Rs mk1,for vfm you simply can't beat them.

Get the Chavez image out of your head and get yourself into a cracking motor and realise that the xr3i doesn't deserve to lace a scoobies boots!!!

Please god don't tell me you own a mk5 3i as they must rank in the bottom 5 fords ever made!!!!

Hilarious!!!put a standard scoob against a standard Cossie,no comparison,Cossie is 80's technology,scoobies 90's technology.

Don't get me wrong, once modified a Cossie is a serious animal, but you would need to change everything for it to be seriously competitive with a basic scooby and I'd still fancy the scoob to be more reliable day to day.

hey i challenge ANYONE who hates scoobies yet has never been in one to take the keys of my car and take if for a blast and come back with " see, still shite cars"

i never really liked the image of imprezas..but i drove one and bought the fucking thing 4 years ago and when ever i drive the car it brings a smile to my face

honestly if anyone ever seems me about when (or if pmsl) my car is ever done feel free to ask to take if for a spin, its such a fun toy to drive and sitting behind the wheel you dont realise how much of a twat you look as you are having too much fun

ps: be warned though the next person who kills my gearbox WILL be paying for the replacement and ill be in the car so none of the " i was just pulling off a roundabout and it just went into gear but no drive" bollox tho i can see me fitting a 6 speed within a year as im getting fed up of being under the fucking car

honestly drive one thats had the handling "tweeked" and get back to me,,,, best thing i ever done to my car was the suspension,,,, made a fun car to drive the best car i have ever driven (unless hungover,,,,, coilovers and hangovers are not to be mixed)

Thanks for the offer mate. I'm going away for a long weekend in August so i'll just book my test drive for that weekend if it's ok. Obviously i want to give it a fair evaluation so 3 or 4 days should just about be right (by the way do i still qualify for the offer even though i'm not a 100% Scooby hater)?
Got any pics of it mate - just want to co-ordinate my clothes so i don't clash with the paintwork lol.

mate honestly ill let anyone drive my car (within reason obv) as i enjoy driving it and unless you drive the car you HONESTLY wont understand what it is about the car,,,, its a bit like having a boring moany missus that your mates cant stand,,,,,, BUT if she is a great cook invite them round for a few meals and they will understand why you put up with some of the crap

ive prob post a pic of my car on here more than rod mentions 200mph, just do a search under "my shed" and im sure loads will come up

Ginge that's one thing i'm glad i never had to do, take mine to bit's as i very rarely opened the bonnet and when i did i shut it quick

One thing mine used to do was understeer if giving it hard into roundabouts is that common on classics?? other than that it sounded like a fighter jet on boost which was pretty cool - i always maintained that to 130 the scoob would leave the old Sierra behind until it had built up boost and speed then would reel it in but you would expect with 180bhp more.

tbh mine just eats gearboxes and i wrote it off, last gearbox was a mate who killed it but i feel its a little underpowered and as i gotta buy a aftermarket ecu for it anyway as you cant chip a V3 or V4 impreza i may aswell fit bigger injectors, FMIC ect and may aswell do parallell fuel rail mod which requires me to take out the manifold,,,,, as thats off may aswell paint it ect ect ect,,,,, not like i use the car much tbh so make no difference if its in bits or complete as i tend to just store the car up till i feel bored and wanna be cheered up with a long distance motorway drive somewhere which is why i love going to the ring with it

the engine will be done next as that is all that is left to do apart from maybe reshelling it into a P1 or a type R shell but at the min its taken me almost a year to change the gearbox

i love the car and im happy to have it just sitting about doing nothing as its my luxury in life i guess with all the things that happened to me in the last 18 months with my life its the only thing i can have total control over and nothing to do with anyone else

It is clean and that's one of the reasons I love it. Doesn't stop me ragging the balls off it though, and it's never let me down. The thing is, I really didn't like them until I saw this car and fell in love with it. I was evo through and through but the scoob is no less of a car and we have no trouble keeping up with the evo boys when we're out on runs.

Im not really a impreza lover either. I think some of the models look ok. Before i got my cossie i took my friends impreza to work (which was 40 mins away from where i lived) i got out of the car shaking cause i thought it was fast. A couple of weeks later i got my cossie. Then i drove my friends impreza again and it felt slow compared to mine. I would rather have a evo 8 any day. It would be a boring world if we all liked the same cars. People say they are reliable well i know of 3 people who had them and they were always going wrong. I just dont think you can compare old ford cosworth technology againist the jap technology which is years ahead of anyone else.

Fyi, i can afford a cossie, i just have better things to waste my money on.

I did read EXACTLY what you said, and what you said makes no sense whatsoever. What I said makes perfect sense and is totally logical! You need to get your head from out of your arse.

Cosworth "did" a Subaru? What did they do to it? Cosworth are "doing" stuff day in day out to road and race cars. I have Cosworth parts in my Subaru engine. What's your point? From your vague posting you clearly have very little idea of what Cosworth are really about, how they operate or the history of the firm.

Some people really are very fucking stupid.....

I used to think "I wil never own a scooby!" notn becauseI didnt like the look of them, just on the basis that there was too muh of them, and being driven by little chavs. But last Aug, I ended up buying a 1999 classic Ver 6 Import Sti. Had a few things done, but it looked subtle and clean, and whatta car.... and I ended up falling in love with it! the handling, the reliable power, the seats etc etc. I was devestated when someone in a Land Rover Discovery rammed into it and it was wrote off.

I say - "dont diss it, till you tried it!"

I like scoobys a lot, I dont view them as a poor man's evo at all, I view an evo as a stupid man's scooby if anything.
Scooby is ultimately as capable if not more capable as a platform (ive yet to see any evo I would prefer to the roger clarke motorsport scooby for example) and yet is much cheaper to buy as well.

Just seems like the sensible one to go for IMHO

I agree that mainly they do seem to be a bit of a magnet for the chav element, but thats always been true of all performance cars that offer reasonable value secondhand, it was xr3is, then nova sr's, then saxos etc, and likewise with some of the turbo stuff, it was rs turbos, then it was saphs, now its scoobys and soon it will be something else no doubt.

Its EXACTLY whata lot of cossies were about 10-15 years ago, you could buy a RWD saph for 2K and loads of chavs did as it was the cheapest way to go fast, now that they have gone up in price the same people that bought a saph 10-15 years ago buy a scooby instead now.
You couldnt go to ANY big illegal car meet in the 90s without at least a couple of chavs in saphs doing donuts and burnouts etc

Everyone ive driven in anger seems to understeer like a bitch, maybe it was down to poor tyre choice but i have driven quite a few and they all seemed to understeer, they were all standard models though.

If you are talking about cossies, then I totally agree with you, the standard ones are fucking awful!
3 door is the best of a bad bunch, but even they want to just plough the nose on a lot.

Evo's are just as bad too, not so much because of suspension geometry like it is with the fords but due to weight distribution I think, in fact I would say the scooby is the least understeery in standard form of the 3 of them.
Its the only one thats got the engine and box in a sensible place AND got decent suspension geometry, with the cossie and the evo you have to pick one or the other, lol

I am a fan of most performance stuff tbh, I couldnt see me buying s Subaru for lots of money, but I am sure I will own a cheap one at some point
I was thinking of buying one as a daily a while back, but the mpg put me off tbh.
Defo cool cars, just have a bit of a image problem at the moment is all, it will pass.
