Bugger!

have you got any idea what else it was due to?
also, was it the plug tip that did the damage to the top of the piston and bore? or was it the heat that did that?

Sorry to hear of this.

Crickey. Hopefully that'll be all the trouble you ever see from this engine again. Even so, it shouldn't hopefully cost you anywhere near a rebuild in price. But pls persevere - it'll all be worth it in the end esp if you use the opp and put in a Grp A gasket, etc.

All the best.

Why are people blaming this on the spark plugs?

The car either dets or it doesn't. Surely thats what causes all the engine failures I see in this post.

Lesson number 1: If you buy a turbo car, before driving it hard, take it STRAIGHT to a good engine tuner and have it checked over. A decent on the road diagnosis or on the rollers diagnosis by a reputable tuner would have spotted these problems and stopped the requirement for a rebuild. How people can spend 5k+ on a nice motor and begrudge the £100 for a basic check over and set up I'll never know.

ps I ran bcr8es at about 220-230 bhp forever in my rst, they didn't fall to pieces.

A lesson for all when ever you buy a Cossie check it out and if your happy buy it..LOL...then drive it gently home then get a tuner to check out the fuel pressure/plugs used basically a health check to avoid these things happening..as to many this kinda situation means effectively paying double the original price of the car!...Take mine for instance...(and this is not a dig to anyone ) the cambelt was sooooo tight it would have snapped soon imo...the oil pressure fully warm was on about 20psi due to a tickover of about 500rpm...now on 1000rpm and a healthier pressure other than that hunky dory...great car at a great price...BUT if i'd not have spotted the cambelt it could well be me making a post like this too!

I learnt from my Saff...bought it and never checked anything and it spun a bearing 2 weeks later .......but that was a good thing as it spawned a DIY cossie freak

what a prick, we've had over 20 turbo'd cars & this is our first blow up.
it may not be 100 percent that it was down to the plugs, but they didn't
help did they? i always used to run bcr8es plugs in my RST's, ,,,,,,,,,, ,
but its not an RST you dingleberry

I think GUZZLER and SassyRS know what they are doing when they buy a car. With all the cars they've bought and sold over the years theyve not had a problem till now. I bought mine off of them and shes all good

shit happens and if u read it properly its a cossie not a RST about the spark plug situation

good luck with the rebuild guys

...........................have to find some more stuff to sell me lol

Chill peeps

Steve was likely making the RST comment towards the pictures of dead RST's on this very topic

For the record, ive customers using BCR8ES with YB's on greys with 400BHP, they are cool enough to do the job without doubt, i just personally dislike the physical build quality of em, they are cheap shite IMO.

( Stu managed to post whilst i was posting... hes fast that man! )

Sasy and guzzler.

Its a shame that your car blew up. Dont think i dont think that.

As for telling me that an s2's not a cossie with 340 bhp. No shit My comment was to the guy with the fiesta rst that blamed the bcr8's on melting it as well.

I have seen bcr8es' in cossies running 380 at the wheels and 420 at the wheels. So like I said before, dont blame the spark plugs... get the car checked out before running it up hard.

None of that is a personal attack, its just good if people learn from others mistakes. What would you recommend people from your experience now?

Cheers

PS Nice to see that I agree with Phil on one thing!

agree with ya on that note that its good to learn from other peoples experiences be it good or bad,

and learn from me that for the sake of £32 best to change the cambelt tensioner as well as the belt

got the escort van fixed aswell it was the belt tensioner colapsed, didn't
damage the head, bent 7 valves, so not to bad, parts to put it right were £414,
but the guvnor told me to give him £200. not bad, less than Ford dealer nett
sorted the airleak on the 4x4 today aswell, the throttle body had come loose,
thats what was causing it to idle high. nice easy job that one, good car, now
