Default E46 M3's prices

just browsing pistonheads tonight; the prices of M3's have come down alot recently.

so many people are selling, on pistonheads alone there are 35 pages if you're selling, it would have to be cheap or extreamly special to stand out IMO

That is still a cheap car at that money. Very difficult to overlook.

Thats the thing, everyone has got one. You can pick em up for peanuts now - they have lost a bit of exclusivity IMO

They are falling into the same bracket as cossies did 10 years ago, people can afford to buy them, but not maintain them.. Great cars, but have the potential to be VERY expensive to run. Give it a year and I am sure you will be able to pick one up for 5k..

My old chap bought one a couple of days ago is an individual model that has only done 7k miles from new, couldn't believe the condition of it, has never even been out in the rain.

Its like every other car out there for sale, you will get cheap ones with high miles, no extras and little history all the time.

Proper kept ones are still fetching not bad cash, i paid 14k for mine a year ago, every extra, fbmwsh and 53k on the clock.

Other that tyres and a wishbone its been the most reliable car i`ve owned.

As a package theres not a car out there you can buy for that kind of cash thats better, thats why i`ll be keeping mine forever!

So true, another one is the Asbo ST, a car that in 2005 was 17.5K for the base model, both awesome cars, I was and still am considering one of them as a daily car, the reason for there cheapness as said is simple because there expensive to run so especially at the moment no one wants them so the only hope you have of getting them shifted is to drop the price.

That being said I don't see to many E90 M3's, I thought the owners would have moved onto these.

its running costs are a pain, insurance has gone up and so has fuel,,,,, so factor that in the age of the car just means money pit

still nice cars for the cash though

its about 70 75 to fill a tank and i was getting anywhere between 200 and 300 miles. Normally about 230 miles to a tank.

The same thing is happening with m5's. I think its down to the fact there a nice performance car but not special enough to be a weekend car so people try and run them as an everyday car which is expensive.

End of the day who wants a everyday car that costs a bomb to run? M5's more so than m3's 5.0 v10 as an everyday car pmsl i test drove 1 and done 15 quids worth of juice in 22 miles, who the fuck can afford to run something like that?

there is a lot of people out there crapping it because alot of the e46,s are having rear sub frame leaving the car problems

and they aint that expensive to run

would say same bracket as a cossie imo

i would have one in a heart beat but a late 46 not an early one

They are expensive to run. 1k for brakes. 700 for an inspection 2 service. Then what happens if your gearbox or engine go pop? Plus its daft stuff like some parts are coded to the car so buying second hand isnt an option so bmw just take the piss as there dealer part only.

U are kidding right lol ive had my saff for 10 years and wouldent say it was expensive to look after other than the money i have spent modding it that is but that was my choice wasent needed! cosworths only cost if u blow them up but that would still be cheaper than blowing up an m3 lol as for every thing else like bearings brakes tyres suspenion if its not double on an m3 then i bet its more lol

Mine is the best car I have ever owned.

Can't believe I overlooked it for so long.

For the money, I can't think of anything that comes close.

Absolute performance bargain at the moment.

As its been said already, you can get cheap ones out there now and lots of them but will all be highish miles and no doubt end up need money spending on them.Think for a nice one be it a coupe or a convertible you still have to pay around 15k

no surprise theyre dropping in price really, especially as theyre now aging and the e9x is now available.

same thing happened to the E36 M3s, 10 years ago (a few years after the 46 was released) they were 20+k second hand still. now you can get a pukka one for 5k!

mark my words in 10 years time e90 m3s will be seen for <10k

the cars that hold value long term are those that are rare and desireable, eg the E30 M3.

now if they made 10x the number of those when new they wouldnt cost anywhere near the price they still hold now!

I'm certainly looking this way towards the back end of this year... I've always fancied one and the stigma and all the 'bollocks' that goes with it doesn't bother me in the slightest.....

Why can't I have fun....

Shings,

Go for it and ignore the bollocks.

Most people have never driven one, and those on here that slate them are usually hooning around PC World car park in a 3k saff cossie!

Best decision I ever made - I've got Stage 3 cossie power, heated leather, those looks, that handling and the exclusive use of the fast lane on the motorway!

lol thats a bit hard as people arnt slateing them there saying they cost alot to run and look after and there are no 3 grand cossies and give it a few years and it will be 6-8 grand cossie and 5-6 grand m3 lol and i wouldent say real stage 3 power maybe the same as mr halfords who sticks an argos chip in it but when i had my m.a.d 350 it was much faster than e46 m3s my friend! as for excusive use of the fast lane lol there limited to 155 for a start but yes nice cars but done over rate them mate!

Cost a lot to run?

They're not that expensive.... and I've owned two saff cossies so I know what money down the drain feels like!

Yes, there are plenty of 3 grand cossies. I know, as I bought one nearly 10 years ago.

As for stage 3 power, it easily has it, but it is a little heavy. Personally I don't really care whether a stage 3 cossie would "have it" because we both know that 0.5 over a quarter of a mile means fuck all.

Cossie would probably be faster top speed too at that spec, but you wouldn't be so fast sat on the hard shoulder waiting for the breakdown service!

Plus the last trackday I did, saffs were nowhere! Times move on....

10 years ago lol couldent u buy fags then for about a pound as well ive had my saff for 10 years and it costs fuck all to look after really other than the money i wasted modding it i bet if i still had standard brakes i could change them for about 70 pounds all in i bet u wouldent get much change from 700 hundred on yours lol not as if u can get the bits from halfords! and i have too mates who work for woods bmw in hook hampshire who tell a very different story as to how they are to own and run as i dare say they see alot more of them than u! and what are u on about 0.5 over a quater mile? a quater mile is no guide at all how fast a car is nor is 0-60 in gear on the move is wear it counts!

why do you need to buy a ford that can compete with a bmw when you can just buy a bmw?

I used to be blinkered but then i learnt to buy a car on its merits not on its badge

I lost my Ford blinkers after I lost 4k on a Saph in 4weeks because it didn't like being driven hard. ( Maybe thats T4 power for you lol )

Since then I've had a few cool cars and a few shit ones - I admit none were as fast as my Saph and none had quite the grin factor and none destroyed all comers with such ease and amusement .... but an M3 is a nice car and now I'd just like a quick nice car (with added RWD)

Jaicossie...that looks stunning! for me i have always liked the looks and performance of them, like anything you get what you pay for. You see them everyday but that really wouldnt bother me, it as an all round car makes up for that.

I used to love the pheonix yellow ones but have to agree....reds where its at!
