Default modding saff rev counter

due to my 5 cylnder engine swop im wondering how you go about modifying the rev counters, i send mine off to MSD normally but its been a while and it isnt a ford motor thats in it,

coil pack per cylnder (5)

wondered how the DIY tweekers do it, and how you with coil per cylnder lads have done it!

Might struggle with a 5 cylinder, probably better off going for an aftermarket tacho like an SPA or stack, that are just plug and play.. The other company I know of are called speedytach, based in wales I think, will google it in a min & post back.

cheers peeps, will be using DTA managment eventually, but to get it running will be using the standard bosch managment.

i have some clocks from the donor car, i will just chop them up and use the audi rev counter, atleast it shows 9000rpm on the gauge, that`ll do for now.

liking the link Will

You can select trigger output on the DTA. It was a feature added when I requested it a few years ago !!

other option is to splice a potentiometer into the actual wires going to the coil that operates the gauge and you can use that to reduce the reading. Not perfect, but works very well.
Some rev counters actually have a trim pot already built in anyway so you dont even need to do that

put a v6 counter next to the standard 4pot one the wire them both up.

as you drive along look at both and then just work out the middle of where theyre both pointing

You can buy a multiplier to work any counter from any signal, the self build kit is a doddle and cost around $14.
