Default mot an catalic ?

my mate has jus bought a 106 quicksilver but its has a gti engine fitted init...how ever the mott is comin up an it has a straight through exhaust including 4-1 manifold...the mot is due next month an was wondering how hed go about the emissions on the mot due to it not having a catalic ? does it need 1 or not ?
any ideas on what todo ?

If either the engine or the car are J plate or earlier then you dont need a cat, if they are both K plate or later then you do.

So given the age of the cars in question, I should think he'll need either a cat or a very friendly tester

the car is on a R plate...also as its still registered as a 1.4 would the emissions not be higher on a 1.6 ?

Emissions are a percentage, so doesnt really make any difference what the engine size is.
