Default Living with an RS6

Looking to buy one as an everyday car. What are they like to live with as a daily and are they really thirsty. The one im looking at has a 540 bhp remap and had the cambelt done about 10,000 ago. Id expect service costs and general running costs to be high but just thought id see if anyone on here has had one. Looking at at 2003 car.

The DRC suspension is usually a ballache and expensive to fix, plus they're not unknown to shit gearboxes either.

I don't know your financial position or what sort of mileage you do per year, however, to consider running an RS6 as a daily you must have deep pockets... if you dont, then look elsewhere IMO.

Cheers,
Grant

How many miles a year does your daily need to do?

I'd love an RS6 but even if I could afford to buy one, I could never afford to run it, would cost me at least 15K a year extra over my current transport.

I sold my 2003 RS6 Avant last week.

The MOST expensive car to run ive ever owned by a long way, ive owned an e39 M5, 450bhp escort cosworth, evo 6, Audi RS4 etc. Made my E39 M5 running costs look like a fiesta. If I was really gentle on the car I was getting 16mpg.

Gearboxes are prone to problems as are DRC suspension. Brakes very expensive to replace and they eat them regularly! I wouldnt touch one without a comprehensive warranty or VERY deep pockets lol.

Despite all that it was fucking awesome!!!

Do about 100 miles a week, sold my frs and bought a family car but hate it and wanted something with a kick and big enough to cart a travel system around for the little one. Financially we survive ok but its the car on the list and im like a little kid when i get somat in my head and have to have/do it.
Just done an insurance quote and the cheapest with the better half on the policy was just over 3k monthly and £2100 annually.

If you are seriously looking at an RS6 my mate has one for sale, this car has an LPG conversion on it and by the time you do the math on the price of fuel it works out at over 40mpg, car has had both engine and gearbox remaps done, and makes just over 500bhp on gas.

If your interested PM me and I'll give you his number.

a remap for the gearbox

the rs6 using an automatic box, like most modern automatic boxes everything is controlled by electronic solenoids & valves inside the box controlled by a ecu. a box remap just re-adjusts things like when it should change into the next gear with reference to x amount of throttle. it probably just holds the gear longer since having a remap.

Re: 16mpg? really? thats better than i've had out of all my previous v8 land rovers!

...they look amazing in this colour, however, I'm not 100% that you'd have time/the need to use an RS6 Lee??!

It's is really as the rest Is my house deposit just can't think of another car where your getting so much for 11k. Been looking at s4 avants aswell but I'd imagine the running costs would be on a par with the 6

Lovely cars, considered a few before I settled for the M5.
I was put off by the apparent guarantee that the gearbox would fuck up, and only buy one that has been converted to coilovers to save u anymore hassle. Re mpg, depends on your driving style and where u use it, m5 gets 16mpg average, so not cheaper to run.
