Default Auxillary idle control methods??

Hi guys, I need a mechanism to put on my Previa to help me raise the idle speed when stationary...the sorts of things you get on Ice cream vans and apparently on Limo's etc...

Does anyone have any sort of information on the modules or mechanisms?

The problem we are having is now the the Previa has gone from a 65a alt, to 3 210a alts, its stalling the engine...so we need to figure out a way to raise the engine idle speed so we can run all 3 alts at once. Ideally, we need to raise the idle to around 2-2.5krpm to be safe...

If anyone can help I would be VERY greatful!

this should do it just fit a second idle speed control valve in the intake & wire it up on a switch

Quick search on ebay for "Bosch Idle Valves":

http://shop.ebay.co.uk/?_from=R40&_t...sch+idle+valve

Either new or used (depending on your budget).

Pick one that is a 2 pin multiplug as it will be a PWM (Pulse Width Modulated), plumb it in so that one side is going to your plenum (after throttle body) and the other side is open to atmosphere, ideally with a filter on.

Then wire it in paralell to your existing idle valve and play around with restricting the size of the atmospheric hole until it stabilises your idle where you want it.

Alternatively, you could try and manually jack the throttle butterfly open a bit to physically raise the idle speed. You might then need to modify the throttle sensor though to ensure it still reads 'idle' correctly.

Will both seem like good ideas...I wonder if trucks, ice cream vans, limo's etc use these methods?

I was thinking of making something like a manual choke on the accelerator cable?

old a/c systems used to do something similar, usually with a solenoid to physically open the throttle a little more via a linkage.

if your previa has a/c but you no longer use it, try switching it on with the compressor clutch disconnected and see if it has any affect.

Nick...there was no AC as standard on mine unfortuantely...

I cant seem to find any information on how the trucks/vans etc do it?

Do you think it will be possible to maybe t-piece the accelerator cable?

I mounted a DIY Cruisecontrole from waeco.
That thing works fine as a CC, but it also has a Testmode where u can set with the buttons the rpm up and down...

Here is the link to these products! (i know its german just translate the page
http://www.waeco.com/de/produkte/pkw/4374.php

Alot of cars will make trouble when u give them aditional fresh air from the atmo, the MAF Sensor will miss that amount of air!

Could you somehow create an air leak in the inlet somewhere after the air flow meter and manually control it with a bleed valve or similar?

i'd say jacking the throttle somehow is the best idea rather than introducing air, as you need extra power to run them essentially and if the air is not measured and just weakens the mixture it's not going to help.

choke cable or similar would be the easiest.

or a brick on the accelerator pedal lol

On some Jap stuff they have an unused throttle quadrant (for cruise control or kickdown on auto), if it's got that just rig up a manual choke type thing on it.

If wanting to use an idle speed control valve, a 96> Fiesta/Ka heater control panel has a PWM output for the hot/cold heater valve..could use the circuit board and put it in your own housing.

I did wonder about using the above for a boost control.... pikey AVCR!!
