Before we had a baby I had an ST and when I bought it I had a look round the vauxhalls and the golfs etc. Sitting in a VXR after an ST they felt flimsy and cheap. I know the vauxhalls have a lot of trouble with pistons and bottom ends which put me off a bit.
Nice cars and they go well, which ever you prefer really...

my work mate had one, a red 08 plate with 13,000+ on the clock, he's just traded it in recently (main dealer) for a new white astra 1.4, he said the vxr was drinking petrol, i don't know what he's doing, he only live's 3 miles from work
my local vauxhall dealer now wants Ł11,595 for this vxr

When I was Vauxhall used to get lots of them coming in for headsgaskets, some for new engines, due to the bottom end going
Look nice, sound nice. But end up falling apart.
The Astra vxr tend to last much longer.

one of the girls that works at my old work just got rid of hers due to the headgasket going two times and having coil pack no 3 replaced about five times and a new turbo after 10,000 miles she traded it in and got a new impreza

A lot of very unreliable and downright incorrect information on this thread mate.
I suggest you do your Corsa Vxr homework elsewhere! Possibly vxronline.co.uk
Btw, I own a Corsa VXR Arctic (the white and black one)

Gearboxes are weak
Rear wheel bearings are weak
Radiators are crap and leak alot
Had a few with wiring rubbing through behind the dash as its routed badly from factory
Heater motors can be crap(80% of time crap connection on plug)
Air con pipes have also been known to break.

Cracking little cars but dont really have the tuning potential of an ST focus, so it depends what you are after.
Most reliability problems are caused by thrashing and a lack of maintainance, althoguh they arent exactly Audis for build quality either realistically.
Go and test drive one and make your own mind up mate
Just remember they are the weight of a 3 door nearly, and a little less power, so basically performance is the same as a standard 3 door, ie not good if you are used to modified turbo cars like most of them people on this forum.
So dont expect it to go like a 200bhp 800kg nova does!
To the normal man in the street though they are a little rocket ship.
Need a diff really though, same as the ST does!

Not sure they use the same steering setup as the rest of the Corsa range but have base models as our fleet cars and they are absolutely HORRIBLE to drive. The electric power steering is so sensitive to tiny inputs (the sort of minor steering corrections you make driving alon g a road) and yet it's so vague as you have no idea what the front wheels are actually doing in a corner.
Horrible little things - wrong badge as well.

Judgeing by Vauxhalls build quality it should be poor, however if I was in the market for that sort of car I think I would rather have one of them opposted to the Fiesta ST, sadly Ford no longer offer anything like they used to (I.E for those in the FI market) and missing out on a huge gap imo! Doubt there as fast as a Cosworth, they have slower 0-60 and top speed to start with plus they don't have near the torque of one, only similarity I should think is the power!

That's everyones war cry when Corsa vxrs are mentioned!
Thorney Motorsport have explained this in depth and it's nothing to do with vauxhall!
"Over the last 6 months we personally have inspected 9 Corsa VXR engines with engine failure and on every single one the failure was on the number 4 piston. On every single failure the car had been remapped by a particular tuning company or via one of this company's hand held ECU remapping devices."
It was down to a certain tuner not mapping them correctly. It's quite an interesting read actually:

You'd be surprised! There's a lot of people going on about reliability issues on there. Its not just a Corsa Vxr forum, it's for all vxr's. This is a ford forum but not everyone loves fiesta ST's

Forgot to say the exhaust is also blowing!
Just looking at it is enough to put me off having one with it's problems and I liked the look of them as well.
I know she waited 6 months for it and ordered it with Black wheels, the order was delayed 3 months and when it came it had Silver wheels on and she had to wait even longer
deffo not good customer service
