Focus diesel 1.8 TDCI starting and cold weather woes
I have an '04 plate Focus 1.8 TDCI 100 with 122k miles. It drives like a dream when the engine is warm, and starts first time on mild days. I've had the car for two weeks.
However, on cold mornings the car fails to start first time. It ignites the fuel almost instantly but wont turn over. It usually starts after 2 or 3 attempts but is very sluggish for about 5 minutes until the engine is warm. It has been known to cut out.
I recently had the cam sensor replaced. Doesnt seem to have done much. I have also tested leaving the ignition on for 3 x 10 s bursts to give the glow plugs extra chance to warm up. However that didnt help.
Does anybody have any ideas? I have read on this thread that it could be a battery (as posted by krm199) that isnt providing enough ampage to the glow plugs. Anything else it could be?
