Plug leads keep melting on manifold pls help....
Hi, wonder if anyone can help, had alot of trouble with my leads being so close to the manifold , especially number 3 as its even melted through the heat proof sleave and then through the plastic body of the lead, now ive wrapped the manifold and as said put those socks on the leads but is still happening. They are also going very brittle due to the excess heat even after only around 500 miles.Does anyone have any ideas on how i can sort this problem?
Heres a pic below so you get a rough idea. The leads i tend to use are just the bosch ones but wondered if there were any others you could use? or heat proof ones? (please note leads are normally tied together and not loose like this)

how about moving the coil pack to inlet side so leads run straight over the rocker cover
ceramic coating can be quite expensive but does work very well also
has it always been running so hot?

Thats an idea gus, will look into that.I doesnt really run that hot at all to be honest .More the fact its just the heat from the manifold and the leads are so close, its only number 3 thats a problem to be honest.

Take the hard plastic covers off the actual spark plug end of the lead (FRST/2i), they will pop off - these are what are making them sit close to the manifold. Fit the lead end onto the plug, fit socks (you can make tuck the sock all the way down into the spark recess) and drill a hole through one of the rs1600i fins and use a small cabe tie to make the lead sit away from the manifold.
I had to do the above and I have had zero problems since.

Thanks bomber I will try this tonight. How do you find the actual silicone lead holds up to the heat? Is there any kind of sleave you can put over the actual lead itself that's nice and thin. Or even a tape?

After you've removed the FRST outers, fitted socks, just route the leads over the rocker (drill a tiny hole in a fin and use a cable tie on them if they won't stay in place).
Dead easy and 100% sorted the problem.

Just done this as you said mate so will see how it goes, its certainly more away from the manifold now just have to see how the silicone part holds up to the heat.
