Those Bargain Trolley Jack Sets From B&Q
Just been and picked mine up, its never going to win any design awards, and its no top brand make, but the jack, axle stands, and wheel chocks, look fairly decent for the price IMO, and it means i can retire my trusty old scissor jack

My thoughts exactly, i got mine yesterday. For occasional DIY use its fine its not like its used everyday. Some jobs i do i could do with 2 jacks and my 25+ year old jack is showing its age now. End of the day it was less than £15.

with great bastard difficulty matt, ive done all sorts on the scissor jack, even fitted my decat, that was arse twitching time, there not bad if your just changing wheels, but when your under the car, different kettle of fish mate, the fucking things are lethal.

Those stands look identical to the ones my granddad bought for me in Aldi 4-5 years ago for ........£3.49 a pair!
I'm still using them to this day though and I'm known to throw/kick the odd axel stand

almost chopped my leg off changing a front brake disk on a scisser jack when it rolled backwards and i wasent even under the car!
i was lucky it went back first then down as it landed with a thud on my baggy track suit bottoms...
would never use a scisser jack again, even at the side of the road

mate, usually glenn who posted in this thread lets me use his garage with all of his top of the jacks/tools, and does the work for me, but on the occasions when him and his garage are not available, i have just used the scissor jack

If I ever go under a car without an axle stand under it I always just chuck a wheel under the sill or similar so that if it falls it can only go a finite distance, I got partially crushed by a car about 15 years ago and learnt my lesson then, luckily a large mate was on hand to take enough of the weight for me to wriggle out but it so easily could have gone the other way if I was alone at the time.

Jesus, RIP mate. One of my mates uncles also went the same way, was underneath a car on a scissor jack and it fell on him. Not a nice way to go, and probably goes someway to explain why i CANNOT get underneath a car when it's just on a scissor jack!!!! Literally, try and shuffle underneath it but my body just won't go!!

See the original thread https://passionford.com/forum/genera...t-b-and-q.html theres some more constructive feedback from others that have actually used the stuff!
Since moving and no longer having a nice big garage anymore i'm not spending a fortune on a jack when its often getting wet outside. Mines used mostly on my Jimny after its been off road anyway and it usually gets covered in shit while i clean up the brakes etc.. at £14.98 its essentially disposable if it lasts over a year its a bonus. Its made no worse than my current jack and thats been going strong for well over 25years!

Cheers for the link to the original thread and the feedback. I think as mine, like most people i would imagine, will only be for occasional use it should fit the bill just fine. Might still lob a spare wheel under there though just in case!

I wouldn't expect more at all, I'm saying I wouldn't buy or use that for any money.
The jack is flimsy, the jacking plate too small, and I wouldn't trust it to hold the weight for many months.
The axle stands are equally weak, and I would never climb under a car sitting on those and/or that jack, simple really.
£15 to hold up over a ton of metal, no thanks
