... has anybody done this, is there a reason to leave it as a 2xpiece bolt on item? or would it be OK and a sound move to weld the 2x parts together to remove a gasket and a possible leak? Ive seen swedish style plenum,s welded to the trumpet section before I would think to help guarantee the same thing?

Only down side is cleaning them out.
