I've had 2, a 2.5 and a 3.2. Big difference in performance between them but both fantastic fun and the best handling cars i've ever owned in standard trim (tracked them both).
Ignore all the ignorant comments, usually from people who have no idea what they are capable of. The reported lack of straight line speed is more than compensated for by the handling, and 165mph in the S isn't too slow either....
Enjoy!
(Take note of Danster76's forum recommendation, good bunch of boys/girls, if you want any specific advice drop me a PM as I did a lot of work on mine).

If you want a drive out this way when you have it, give me a shout [07947 570599] and you can try the 2.7 and see how there's no noticeable difference - if of course I have it still!
This is not a sexual offer although I'm not ruling anything out at this point.
P.S you dodged a bullet on that X5. The new owner did about 200 miles before the gearbox failed
<< real tears, it's cost me a fortune and I'm STILL chasing the warranty company

Coil packs are a common problem on the older cars, wouldn't have expected a Cayman to suffer yet though.
Header tanks are prone to cracking at the bottom, only way you can tell is by lifting the carpet and boot liner up to reveal the (rear) boot floor. Can be changed DIY but it's a bitch of a job.
Engines can be an issue, several reports of them letting go for no apparent reason (intermediate shaft failure or liners slipping) makes a Cossie seem cheap if you need a rebuild/replacement.

Oil leaks and servicing are the only things to watch out for.
The sump isn't that big and its easy for them to run dry, but most are enthusiast owned so get looked after. You can tell from 20ft if its kosher as they get tatty quick.
All engines are reliable enough and revvy, the 3.2 is a torquey mid range drive whilst the 2.5's and 2.7's rev well and rely on the top end of the variocam.

Firstly stay away from the 2.5
Main things with looking at a boxster...inside edge of the brake disks, they peel the material even though theface of the disks you can see may look nice
Rms (rear main seal) v.common oil leak on any boxstee/996
Wishbone bushes are terrible on the boxster bushes come unstuck from the casings causing wonderin squeeks and accelerated tyre wear
Finally exhaust fixings...very cheap materials wear used. Quick sign qould be to check the clips on the back box
