Actually, just had a proper look at the listing and it looks quite a tidy car. Depending on what it ends up going for, somebody could get a nice little car for not too much money even if it does need a new engine.

I used to have a Puma and they are a superb drive!
But, I'm sorry, the 1.4L Puma is the only one to avoid.
Preferably, I would be looking at a 1.7L Puma.
Other than that, I would go for a 1.6, which uses that same Zetec-SE as found in the Focus. With that model you want a bit of poke!.
If you have the money then wait and get a proper one!

1.4 are prone to engine failure, bottom ends go iirc and will smoke and rattle. Not to say it is the case but a naughtly person may create an easy fix fault that means you wont hear the engine running until you own it?!?
'Last owner turned up with tools and a ramp' - yet didn't buy?? not an easy fix then is it, backed up by 'only buy if you turn up, tow away and fix in your own time' this could mean 'I dont want you to get it running and hear how flucked it is and walk away'

You can get reasonable runners with a bit of tax and test for Ł700 and thats a 1.7 so even if it was working 1.4 its worth max Ł600 IMO.
non runner with potentially what could be something major no way would it be worth more than a couple hundred. If he knew what the fault was then fine you can grade it better. but for all we know it could be siezed engine, siezed starter, dead battery, fucked wiring, a combination or all of it
