Default In a dilemma, with my Sierra!!!

Well,it rhymes a bit.ok it was poor but this is my problem.

Firsly, this is NOT A FOR SALE THREAD!!!Im after advice not exposure,if I decide to go that route,I'll clear it with the mods first but I've owned this now nearly 5 years!!!!

I have a 4x4 Saph cos, ebony, aircon, leather etc etc.it's done 134k but has only done about 20k on a rebuilt motor, sounds quiet and pulled well on the one journey I had in it!!!
As you may know I've been giving the bodywork some serious attention, all the weldings done (iirc!!!!) and she's been repainted to a very good standard in original ebony black which is a lovely colour.
It's not standard,it's got a phase one chip, needs a good setup although starts first time everytime, the interior is ok BUT I have loads of spare leather or cloth seats and mint door cards, the interior could be near as damn it perfect IMO.
I've bought mint brakes, drilled front and rear and konis for it,it's been 1/2 polybushed etc and I've got all the others to complete.
Problem I'm facing is,I've got at least another grand to spend on it which I can do now I'm starting work soon but as I'm away working, when am I actually going to use it?I don't have a garage so that's not going to help it long term, the missus won't drive it/I wouldn't want her too either!!!I'm just thinking it could end up being an expensive ornament on the drive and although I live in a lovely area,I fear for her if it's left on the drive and somebody breaking in etc.

My options as I see it are:

1.finish it and stop whining, easier to sell a complete tidy car rather than a half finished jobbie.I reckon it's a £5.5-6 k car when done, although some of the shit I've seen for sale lately it's an £8k car!!!but I'm realistic.

2.spend no more, pass it on to someone who's got the time/patience/enjoyment etc to complete it.as I said,it runs, drives stops and just to get on the road moted wouldn't be too hard or expensive.take a hit financially.

3.break the slut.ok,more money overall but waiting round forever to sell the rear door seal to someone in Ukraine who wants to pay via western union doesn't appeal much.again,no garage but I could make a storage area for the parts.timescale again being an issue.
4.p/x swap as is for something more suitable to us both,I'm fancying an evo 4/5,skyline r33 gts etc.

Any advice/other ideas (legal) much appreciated!!

sell it as is matey. probably get a bit more money than breking it, and also, someone else will get her on the road. imagine how pleased you will be if you bumped into it at a show or somewhere....fully restored. sell it!!!

Mid laquering.

Only surface squire!!!

Functional, maybe not too pretty but the whole car was seam sealed and undersealed, pretty damn solid now.

Looks ok now,no time/skill to do a full underside repaint!!

Ouch,chassis leg was worse though.

But good now.

Spoiler painted but boot lock welded over, fibreglassed and filled, looks mint and adds a touch of security, well, not much really!!!

Maybe not the best photos!

Bit more welding,front jacking points.

As she stands today, actually 10mins ago

I swapped the wheels with Milesy on here but sprayed/refurbed them in a nice charcoal colour.

Paint finish is pretty good, just needs the whole car to be cut and polished.

Comes with all bits to finish squire, free mould on the interior too!!!

I do like my smoothed boot,it opens a bit like a medieval torture device though!!!

Happy with the wheels too.
I'm talking myself into finishing this aren't I?

What's it worth currently though do you think?I'd like to get £4k ish for it as it's really a bolt back together job, sure it's never going to be concourse due to the welding etc but it does also come with a stack of paperwork, all old mots etc.
Or am I miles away?I think if I am it would be worth finishing and enjoying?

i dont really know to be honest, but i reckon its gotta be worth about 2-3k in bits as it is. it maybe worth just bolting all the bits you have got together and making a half about car and then advertising it. somebody will buy it i am sure

Put it back together and get it sold mate... I'd not even consider buying something that looks like that for 4k, however, if it was finished and driving then (theoretically) I'd think about spending the 5-6k that it'd be advertised for.

Cheers,
Grant

to totally contradict what i wrote a mo ago, yes i agree with grant. no one in thier right mind would pay 4k for something that looks as incomplete as that. for a couple of hours bolting back together, you will make a shed load more money. quick clean up of the seats etc and she will go for 4-5k as a project!!

I can see where your coming from, you'd look initially and think "what a dog" but in all honesty the majority of the hard bits are done,I.e bodywork!!!
I've only given a dim view of what was once a really nice car,tbh I've done a lot of the horrible jobs on it,chassis welding, jacking points, rear legs, sills, seatbelt mounts, all sorted.
It's got all it's 90 date stamps on it,hpi clear,I've even changed 3 of the four doors simply cos the seals had rotted and the doors (original) were badly dented.
We've painted in the door shuts, all round the frames etc etc.
The general body was good on it,few bubbles by the sunroof but I ground it back to fully bare metal, removed any trace of rust, cured it,repaired it,primed, etch primed etc and it came out mint.
I know a bit about bodywork and its stood all winter outside and nothings come back through so I'm confident it's treated for a good while yet.
I think the bottom line is build it up,cut and polish,Mot/tax,get it down dannys for a good set up and take it from there as I'd be kicking myself to sell it for less than 4k as it's basically what it owes me,in fact I wouldn't sell it for less,I've seen peeps on here selling basic running gear for £3k and this has been rebuilt engine wise so fuck that!!!
Like I said, interior wise I've got mint doorcards for it,mint seats and a lovely carpet, there's a stunning rainbow cloth interior in the garage but I do love the saff leather if I'm honest!!!
We all agree there's some proper dreamers out there that's why I like to ask the opinions of those that know, not those that claim to know.
Cheers guys,much appreciated.

I'm really tempted,my trouble is Ive just got a new job.great, but it's in Aberdeen!!!commuting in a Cossie would be superb but pricey and I'm looking to get as cheap accommodation as possible as I live in Swansea .my other half and boy won't be moving to scotchland yet as he's just started his gcse's,hence probably nowhere safe to keep it as I can't afford the premium of a garage.
The winters are pretty harsh in Scotland obviously lots of salt used, not good on a ford!!!
I'm considering it if I follow the option of staying out of town as I don't mind driving but I just fear the car will be ruined.
I could keep it to use when I'm on my 10 days off but that means it sitting outside the house for weeks at a time while I'm away and of course there's been a lot of car thefts of our beloved fast fords lately and if someone broke in my house to get the car when I'm not there I'd never forgive myself.
Option 3 though,is to rent a garage in Scotland and keep it up there finishing the work in my spare time, sort of killing 2 birds with one stone.
My shift pattern means I get a lot of time off in-between cycles where I'll be sat twiddling my thumbs or doing o/t,time that could be spent on my Cossie, giving me a safe place to keep it as well.
Fuck it,I'll just rent a garage and live in that, job done!!!!

option 3 sounds like a good idea. you certainly wont get any time off from the wife and kids when you get your 10 days off back in wales matey, so i would take it up to scotland and spend quality time on her.

another option..... see if you can get a cheap swap or p/x with a decent runabout for her.........(say a nice mk4 3i or something) see my for sale ad lol

Okay, i understand you mite not use it much with the new job, but how would you honestly feel once you sold it? i would be gutted, i think my opinion would be to finish it then sell it if i had too. i has a sapphire 4x4 and because the xr4x4 needs work i had to sell her, but altho i know i couldnt do both i still wish i didnt have to sell her.

So best thing you can do is think if you would regret selling it at all, if the answer is yes, then i say keep it......once gone you cant really get it back again.

Havent read full post but,

If youve got all the bits to finish the car off, then get it done and either drive it or sell her on.

I think that's what I will do mate,it's worth jack to someone right now as it's hard to see the potential,it sounds good on paper but in the pics it looks like a scrapper!!
I think I'll see where the land lies up in Scotland and she'll be going up on the back of my cherokee!!!
