V8 Fans..... Tuning a Rover V8
Alright all
Right I am building a rear engined car, and I was going to use a Turbo/SC 2.0l 16v(not YB Cossie) aiming for around 400bhp. However I have been offered a 3.5 Rover V8 for not a lot and it got me thinking. Basically as it is lightweight(6-700kg) will be mid engined using a transaxle to rear wheels, would I be better with a relatively smooth V8 instead of the 2.0l turbo(not so much SC).
So what I was wondering is how easily these can make 400+bhp(more would be fine as long as it's smooth and not major boost spike turbo type power or spin spin spin ) .
My thoughts were a single turbo of maybe GT35/GT40 size running lowish boost with external gate, as these are cheap as hell from US compared to the Rotrex SC I have used in the past that are amazing for FWD due to linear power, but I think with RWD I will get away with some torque spike.
So really just want peoples thoughts on how they would do it......

you need a lot of work to the heads to get it breathing well enough on the exhaust side to work well with the turbo.
its going to cost you a good few grand, buts its very doable and ultimately going to be far nicer delivery than a 400bhp 2 litre 4 pot.

So is the work mainly needed to the head?(obviously I know it will need low comp forged pistons etc).
And when you say work to the exhaust side just port flowing or are we talking bigger valves?
Is there a better V8 to use?

Use the rover V8 3.5 as a door stop and stick a 350 CHEVY engine in there because :-
Smaller in size
bigger cc 5.7litre
and £3000 will get you a brand new 420bhp & 460lbsft at 4500rpm engine
Follow the link for more info!!!!

says it all really. the only thing good about a rover is light weight. i had a griff500 with "340bhp and 320lbsft" the rollers said 285bhp however and that is a tuned rover v8 5 litre. the rover heads are crap and you cant get decent inlet manifolds with equal flow. sbc 383cu ci al the way - you can even get alloy blocks now

Next thing is what transaxle to use, I had looked at both the Renault UN and the Audi 100...... Doubt they will handle a V8 though.
Any ideas?

Agree though for the money, small block, alot cheaper for big power,
alot heaver though, even an ally blocked one,
