Looking for a Saff cos
Hi Guys,
I have just singed up today, So please go easy on me if i get things wrong.
I'm looking for some help into buying a saff cosworth. Things like what to look out for, whats best 4x4 or 2wd i have driven a 345bhp 3 door about 5 years ago and it was bloody great. I have felt nothing like it. So i am looking for a cossy with 300+ bhp but a question is how long dose the engine last with kind of power??
I do have 5k in cash waiting now. I cannot afford any more as it took forever and a day to get this from the wife.
Any help would be great.
Thanks Ian.

Where have you looked for one? I find the best thing to do is find some on eBay or pistonheads and ask the guys on here what they think to it.
Alot will say 4x4 are for the gay and confused and others will say no there not soo its kinda up to you i think. I got a 4x4 in hoping it will stay on the road longer...

Hi Ian your rout on our doorstep!
IMO if you likes the 345 up 3door then a greens conversion in a 2wd saff would be a good start lively enough in the dry and your not going far in the wet lol!
If it's a 4x4 your after I know of a guy on here with a silver one that looks nice! I'll go find his name

I would try and decide the big question first 2wd or gay, sorry 4wd ha ha.
No seriously 4wd is fine, and a lot less stressful to drive imo, 2wd take a lot more work to get the best, esp if raining etc.
So try and blag some rides/drives in some 2wd and 4wd, might save you travelling the length of the country to view a car whose drive(2wd or 4wd) you may not like.
99% of the time I am glad to have 2wd, but the 1% of the time I REALLY wish it was 4wd due to weather/road conditions.
Whatever you choose, try to take some one along that knows cossies to give thier view, and best of luck whichever you choose.

Hi mate, the 2wd & 4x4 cars are completely different to drive. If you are confident in a RWD car with good power, then IMHO the rear driver is the one to go for every time. 4x4's are great cars, but you will always need the next stage of tuning to stay with a 2wd... Ie 2wd standard is approx = to a stage 1 4x4. Then once you are at 350+Bhp, it's big money time to hold the transmission together.
The Ideal car you want to be looking for is a 200 blocked 2wd with a good solid T34 convesion with all the right bits, preferably mapped by someone good like MSD/NMS/MAD etc.
Don't be in too much of a rush to get one, it's coming up to show season, so visiting a few shows might net you a much better car than on pistonheads etc, there are a lot of well dressed dogs out there. 5k should get a clean mildly modded saff.

The 2wd 3 door was great. Had 345bhp I did get to drive it the wet and I did feel the back go a couple of times. As said I'm not in no rush buy just looking for the one. I'll get down some shows and have a look. I want something to keep and look after for years. And hopefully get my old boy into the blue oval someday.
Thanks Ian

The thing that nobody has pointed out is that the 4wd cars come with the much better 200 block fitted and the late 4wd cars come with level 8 ecu's which most people upgrade to as they have the capability to run anti lag and closed loop etc. I have a stage 3 late 4x4 and there's nothing gay about it. I've had both and maybe it's because I'm a bit more grown up but I really prefer the 4x4's

I just think theres equal points to both the 2wd and 4x4. The2wd are a lot more rugged but the 4x4s are more sure footed on the road and nowhere near as twitchy when you start squeezing a bit more from them. It's each to their own but I have owned both and I know what I Personally prefer

I think the 4wd saffs have really good grip. Put it this way if your going into a roundabout at spend you know your gonna come out at the other end. The cossies are the same as any other car, if there looked after they will last a long time and be reliable.
