To put it on retention it is £105
To transfer it to another vehicle is £80

You will need the V5, MOT and tax disc if you have a current one.

Also you will need to fill out a form which you can get there.

They will take everything from you and then either post it all back to you once the transfer is done (normaly within 7 days) or they will call you and you can go and collect it!
The V5 and retention certificate however will need to come back via Swansea so will take a couple of weeks or so.

So whats the score then- If I go to the office tomorrow with all the stuff I won't be able to change them immediately?

I won't be able to sell the car until I get the V5 back either will I..... and it goes in auto trader tomorrow........F**K!!!!!

Love the way you have to pay £105 to keep the reg

I bought mine when the transfer hadn't gone through. DVLA office can photocopy and stamp everything and if in doubt the buyer can phone for confirmation

Thats correct mate
Some dvla offices inc my local one in Northampton used to do it all there and then over the counter but they don't anymore they stopped it in November! Even then although you would have got the mot etc..back there and then the V5 would still have had to come from Swansea and takes 10-14 days if your lucky!
The £105 quid also includes a fee to put the reg on the next vehicle so it costs you nothing then.

I'm not 100% sure that I'll be able to sell it then, even if the phone is ringing off the hook (which I doubt!).

Will it show up as dodgy on the hpi register until the transfer is complete???

The dvla will tell you not to sell it until the transfer is complete! Obviously if you are selling to someone you know you can get round that but if i were you i would not let it go until it is done or you may lose your entitlement to the plate!!
I guess you could still take a deposit and the buyer if they are willing could collect it in a week or so.

If it's in transit you can't stop it or loose the reg. When I bought mine it was easy, even did a HPi and phoned DVLA to verify. They tell you the old and new reg so you can easily check it. Insurance wasn't a problem either as they were happy to accept the new plate after checking. If the police were to stop you as long as the relivent papers that are stamped by DVLA it doesn't matter, he had an Audi TT registered under an M3 and mine didn't exist for 2 weeks
