my old man drove to spain in his beemer, had a flat so took it in to the tyre place and all 4 of his were to the wire on inside, 4x contis and it was a pricey puncture
mint on the outside tho
his cabrio beemer does sit low as std so you dont notice the insides

there are plenty out there. i seen a woman and an 08 plate zafira not long back in the petrol station, front tyres were pretty much slicks. so i pointed it out to her, incase she hadnt realised, and she said, and i quote, 'its ok, its no due its mot for a few months'. i was going to explain to her, you dont just need legal tyres for the mot, the safety aspect is more important, but i thought f*ck it, with that kind of answer, if she gets 6 points, she might realise why tyre's are so important.

Thing is mate I can't even say I'm surprised. Got a lass at work who continually tells me I'm a danger to everybody else as I openly admit to driving at 100mph on a motorway. Then the dappy bint admits in the 18month sor so she's owned teh car she's never once checked the fluids, tyre pressures or anything. Hmmm, who's the bigger danger I wonder??
Almost everycar I buy at salvage has bald front tyres.

paul, Contour 1s were the E34 M5 Wheels (i think!)
Contour IIs are the E36 M3 Saloon wheels, those are the ones ive put on.

Ive done over 25k in the last 3 months in my Combo van and the tyres are wearing perfectly evenly.
And I go over far too many of those damn speed bumps.
And for people saying the tyres are worn on the inside so you cant see them.
I find that turning the steering wheel gives you full and clear access to see the entire tread. It isnt complicated.
It's that big round thing that you hold onto when driving.
There really isnt any excuse for tyres in that condition.

Or blame shite cars ? And people with no sense to actually maintain their cars.

There is a difference between the tyre being "bald" or very close to the legal limit. And a tyre which is worn through and wire poking out.
one is still perfectly safe under 90% of driving conditions IMO, the other is downright dangerous 100% of the time.
And once again, the law is so fucked up it wouldnt even distinguish between the two.

I had a 5 series once, I only owned it for a year, and had to replace the compression strut bushes twice in that year. It was the worst car Ive ever owned. Apart from looks, I really cant think of anything good about it !!
Some of the older 3 series are even worse with regards to suspension falling apart.

I'm not saying you're wrong as 90% of everyday cars checking the tyres on full lock as you say is incredibly easy, however there is still 10% of other cases, such as lowered cars with wide rims.
Something else is cheap tyres, i've found that every cheap tyre i've had on a car has worn alot more on the inside edge, i now have a set of duplops on my golf which have worn perfectly even.

It depends on the car and tyres really, my 5 series is lowered on 235/40/18, which is quite a wide tyre, and even on full lock i couldn't see the cords on the inside edge of the tyre.

There is illegal tyres, and dangerous tyres. And that is extremely dangerous, made even worse by the fact the owner may be oblivious to the fact.
That doesnt warrant points. That warrants a dangerous driving charge.

They have alot of uncleared cars which they recover and store as well, so bits going missing would not go over very well.
