according to calculations on std transmission,17" wheels etc mine does a real 175 @ 7500rpm limit.....but it's off the 180 clocks.....but lets be fair, a quick 160 (clock speed) blast is really easy in a cossie

In a Ford... my RS Turbo was neck and neck with my mate in his ST205 GT4, held for a long time on a local private road, I was right off the clock in my car and it was reading just over 155mph in his, no idea what that would have actually worked out as? His speedo seemed pretty bang on compared to GPS at most other speeds, so at those speeds c145mph maybe??
Fastest I've ever been was in that same ST205 GT4 after it had been taken to 400bhp and I'd bought it off him. The car was off the clock, 180mph+ by a little bit, using the same 10% reduction it was probably c165mph in real terms.
Cheers,
Grant

Mate had a 1.9 escort Rs turbo back in the late 90's,had a big turbo,5th injector, all sorts and was frankly one of the fastest cars I've ever driven if not the fastest.we took that straight off the clock on the m4 going uphill by margam windsock, the speedo needle hit the pin,I think for the trip reset but it showed a comfortable 6750-7000 rpm in 5th.
It had a rolling road printout for over 300bhp but I'm not sure how accurate it was as that's big claims back then.it did have every conceivable extra under the bonnet and receipts running into Ł30k!!!
He bought it off a trader in Bristol who claimed it was a rich mans toy as he loved racing off the lights etc but couldn't do so in his porsches and ferraris.
It maybe remembered by the locals in that area and Swansea,g plate 90'spec but 1/2 leather recaros with twin headlights, very low but standard alloys etc.
Complete animal.

PassionFord Post Whore!!
165 according to tomtom in germany in my m3. felt stupid fast and bottled the last 10 (cars top speed is 176) as a lorry miles infront of me suddenly became miles in the distance behind me, and i realised what i was doing was silly/dangerous so i slowed down
fastest in a ford is probably rays capri supercharged v8. god knows how fast tho.

Testing the future
wasn't an issue really, it was built for it. and i was only a passenger so didn't have to try and hang on to it or anything.
compare that to mike's saff, which had a t34 .48 housing to do 172 mph, the escort had a .63 to do 173mph. who says saffs have bad aerodynamics?

Can you cash a cheque?
You know, I'm not entirely sure, at least in motorcar, maybe 130 mph something along those lines I'd wager.
I have however been considerably faster on a motorcycle, back in the mid 1980's one of our acquaintances suggested I took his new motorcycle out for a spin, fortunately I held a Motorcycle licence for many years previous & had experience of many types, mainly British you understand, Nortons & BSA's to name a few. Anyway, this chaps Motorcycle was the new Kawasaki 900R, which behaved in a considerably different manner to the parallel twins that I was used to, before I knew it the speedometer was indicating a shade over 155mph, highly irresponsible of me, but it happened so quickly, I was astounded at how stable & safe that fine red Kawasaki was at those speeds.
An interesting study, but a frightening indication into how easy one could lose at best your licence, at worst your life, or somebody else's.
From that day on, I have saved it for the track, which isn't that often these days I'm sorry to say.
