Default Weekend Car - Cossie or Evo???

I am selling my X5 now as will no longer be driving to work and my new place has a garage so I am finally going to be able to buy a decent weekend car for a blast in and not worry about it being parked on the street as the X5 will just sit there all week and not get used.

Now i LOVED my Saff when i was 19 but only had it a short period so I would like another one but 3 of my friends now have Evos and they keep saying how much better they are.

I am looking to spend about £5k on one and it has to be 2wd and with the recent posts about Saff prices going up would I be able to get a decent one for that money or worth looking for an older Evo??????

It will only be used at the weekends driving to football and the odd meet during the week....

All opinions appreciated

If it has to be RWD, surely that rules out the evo? lol

Well, if you want 2WD, it can't be an Evo can it

For me it would be the Saph. The Evo is obviously a better car from a technical point of view but, as it's a weekend toy, just for fun, I think the Cossie would clinch it for me.

A bit more wild being 2WD, especially with some decent power, and just got a bit more about it. I think it would be a much nicer feeling to know I had a Sierra Cosworth tucked up for a toy than an Evo.

I think it's about much more than just technical ability myself.

if you simply write "evo" in the reply section, the word doesn't contain enough letters in order for you to post, so you have to add additional letters to make the character count high enough to be able to post the reply

you want a 2wd saph but for £5k you may not get a decent one, and for the money you will get more from an evo

so it's either think with your head or think with your heart

A old Evo won't be any better than a cossie.. They will both be ragged and need bits doing so I'd say cossie,

I know it's neither of the cars mentioned, but personally in that price bracket and from what you've said I'd be getting an Impreza STi Type-RA.

Two reason really aside from me being a big fan of them:

1. I think you'd get a better example of one of these for £5k than either an Evo or a Saff.

2. This model is 65/35 biased to rear drive, which sounds like it may appeal to you.

One like this I mean:

My choice would be the Cossie, no particular reason. Just not a massive fan of the older Evo's. That is all.

go cossie dude. I'd expect £5k to get a pretty reasonable example.

You can blag cheap parts out of all the candidates you place to keep it on the road!!

Cossie all day mate, you can tinker with it if you only using it for weekends and you have answered your own question, yes they are going up in value. WIN WIN SITUATION

Why do you want to be like your mates get a RS and be daft like the rest of us

have a few days in one of your mates cars and then, knowing what a saph is like, at least you've had a feel for both in the real world, you never know, you may just want to go and buy yourself a 944 turbo

cossie, like i was talking about with chip, cossies are just so much more raw and fun than an equally fast evo which feel civillised. the evo at the time was a 4 and the cossie was a three door (chips).

ive never owned a evo but i have been out in a few including my future evo that i let SiB look after whilst i get rich enough to buy it from him, but i have owned a cossie and i still own a impreza, for top speed thrills i would say cossie but for general fun and enjoying not to mention comfort i would have to say evo but then HONESTLY i wouldnt bother going for anything less than a Evo VII so that is out of the question,,,,,, a better bet would be a type R impreza and convert to RWD or as sugested just the dccd and enjoy it as it will drive very well compared to a old evo model

btw when did you get a X5, though you owned a smart car ?

Love these too, but lots of shoddy examples out there. Certainly wouldn't buy one with a £5k budget!

Evo 6 tommi makinen for me over the cossie, but doubt you get one for less then £8k.

Why not swap your X5 for one or are you on a strict budget once the X5 is sold.?

Not really on a strict budget...Just would be nice to have a few pennies in the bank

I could stretch a bit more if something special turns up
