Default megasquirt sensors

anyone know if you need both a tps and a map sensor for a turbo application with megasquirt ecu.
ive read you need something that senses engine load and wondered if only the map sensor would do this, and what the tps is needed for

cheers

TPS is used for acceleration enrichment fueling and map for the load, you really need a air temp sensor and coolant temp sensor to do the job right.

cheers mark, i know about the the other sensors its just the load sensing etc. im confused with.
so i take it : load = when driving the car
and : acceleration = car basically still and reving the engine

or im i still getting confused.....?

you need both mate. well id imagine so. however you select one of them for the acceleration enrichments. have you read the online manual?

Yes you are confused! lol
Any time you press the accelerator pedal the engine takes a big gulp of air, if you do not give it enough fuel to match this the car will 'hang' for a second and jerk as it will be lean.
You use the TPS to tell the ECU that you have pressed the pedal and how fast/far you have pressed it, the ECU then gives the correct amount of fuel to prevent the 'hang'.
NA applications can use the MAP sensor to sense the throttle being opened (MAP increases) but for turbo'd applications the MAP can vary too much on boost and your AE will be cutting in when it should'nt be

there's a lot to take in mate. lol! I get info overload when I start reading it, and I've been a technician for 15 years (hgv). there's some easier to digest guides on www.extraefi. co.uk. worth a look.

What are you planning on squirting ?

I fitted it to my motorbike a few years back and the sheer amount of info available gave me a few head aches!

there should be a couple base maps knocking about for zetecs but I wouldn't use them as gospel. I'm gonna start from scratch with mine. the hardest thing I'm finding is the spark maps. fueling Seems fairly straight forward. oh and the idle pwm is a shit too.

Turbo obviously you need a map sensor, ecu or seperate, and tps otherwise on n/a it can be mapped purely on tps and cts, for racing etc, not nice for a road car.
In short use any sensors you have input for for a better drive.

MS is has a built in MAP sensor, use the existing TPS, then Calibrate AIR TEMP Sensor and COOLANT TEMP sensor.

Then map the Mofo, when I MSed my 24v Sierra, I found a old ecu, cut the connector out, and made a loom.

This is it when I sold it
