Default mg zs lumpy when cold UPDATE

been offered a 1.8 for dirt cheap with t&t, headgasket not long replaced, serviced in dec. been told it idles bit funny when cold. any ideas on a likely cause? coilpack maybe?

Could be a few things, even the cts, ring 01953 456000 and ask for richard, he does nothing but these cars all day everyday, so knows them inside out, he talks a lot(think he's lonely, or gay ha ha!!) but will help out.

Check inlet manifold gasket on cylinders 1 and 4, well known to let coolant into the pots. Have a look at the colour of the plugs compared with each other.

cheers, going to have a look at it shortly, its put engine management light on if thats of any relevance

Its one of the sensors, mine did it on my ZR, cant remember which..diagnostics will tell you, once its warmed up it should run fine

well, i bought it. very happy for what i paid. as for the symptoms, from cold it drives fine and when up to temp it still drives fine however a couple of times on the way home when accelerating it hesitated, sort of like a miss-fire. any ideas?

On my mate's rover it's got an LED on the ecu which will flash a certain number of times to give you the fault codes.

THat's an old Honda engined car, the Rover ecus didn't have that facility.

if its missing under load prob a coil pack

yeah thats what i was thinking, doesnt do it all the time, only about 5 times in the few hours i have been driving it

I would put money on inlet manifold gasket, commen as fook and cause a missfire when cold

ok so i have been to my local motor factors and so far i have changed both the coil packs.not driven it yet but the eml is still on,does it need to be reset or is it the same as my old 620ti with a self learning ecu which adapts after a few miles. i have also ordered a inlet manifold gasket which i will change aswell to be in the safe side

well ive taken it out for a drive and on the 20 minute drive it done it again about 4 or 5 times so its not coilpacks

seems to me like youre pissing in the wind without the fault codes being read, for the price of two coil packs you could have got that done now.

its not the end of the world with regards to coilpacks, i can get refunded on those, its trying to sort it now when garages are closed

As above, there is a light on the dash waiting to tell you what the fault is. Get it read first, then fix whatever needs be
