Cant think of many things I would less like to spend 100K on than an expensive to keep ornament even if I had the money to buy and store it, and the moment you register it and use it you would lose about 30K I expect!

Cant quite get my head into the mentality of a car collector TBH, cars are for using.

Awesome car though, to the right person!

Yeh these cars need to be used. Just the same as concourse cars. I respect the people who own them but they need to be driven. I think some people are scared to use them.

i dissagree ! sorry lads but i think these cars should be kept in cotton wool so people in years to come , maybe our gran children etc will actually be able to see them & not just read about them or look at pictures.

If it wasnt for all these concours and collector people I would never have seen a totally mint 1959 mini etc, so I agree to an extent.

Im glad there are people out there like that, Im just not ever interested personally in being one!

Thats the thing, I guess if you have enough money, you can afford dozens of cars like this AND still buy lots of othes to rag around etc as well.

All you'd need is a bleed valve to make it more lively.

would cost you a lot more than that with all the things that would break in the first few months driving it! Sure that car might look good but i bet it doesnt drive so well.

rather have one that gets driven.

engine rebuilds at ridiculous intervals must put a big dent in the lottery winnings.

As long as it's fitted correctly to save a bar or two of boost fluctuation due to heat expansion...

...before you boil out, surely this makes a difference from the SECS timescale banter doesn't it Simon?

No the 30K I mentioned is what I reckon it would drop in value by the moment you register it and drive it a few thousands miles and as such its no longer such a rare collectors piece

At the moment its going for EVO money for a 1.8 just because of rarity alone

Yes mate, all the seals in the engine will go hard from just sitting there for over 20 years after being first splashed in oil etc

And the fuel lines etc degrade too.

Its corrosion that causes it to do both those things, what else did you think would cause it to do so?

In the most common use of the word, this means electrochemical oxidation of metals in reaction with an oxidant such as oxygen, but there are other takes on the word and its variations...

the exact reason i sold my Escos, bought it when it was 10years old on 7k miles and hardly used it through fear of it getting damaged / de-valuing / dirty

i want a car i can use when the need arises instead of having to think of the above reasons not too!!!

100k for the Ford jinx car worked at a place back in the late 80's and one of the customers had one of these cars, not too sure on the price of the evo version but the normal version was iirc around 50k on the road from Ford which was big bucks back then (still alot of money now)

these cars have done quite well with regards to value and price over the years, double the original purchase price over 20 odd years aint bad

had the nick name of the Ford Jinx car because on one of its early outings in a rally it crashed and killed a load of people
