On the proximity sensor, the alarm should beep with movement outside the car and with limited movement inside the car.
If you can reach into the car and touch the radio without the alarm going off, it is not sensitive enough. That is to avoid any temperature variations causing the "bubble" to exceed the limits of the car and therefore any false alarms.
That is of course assuming you have a dual-zone proximity sensor, not just a single-zone one.
