Default HELP!!!!! My cossie won't start!!(Woo hoo does now!)

Ok, Please welcome me to Cosworth ownership!
Ok, my mate SVONY and I have been freezing our nuts off..
He replaced the water temp sensor with a new one.
we have fuel, we have spark, the car cranks, twice in the whole time it made a quick attempt to turn over. Still nothing.
we tried a spare map sensor, coil, amp. Fuses in the box next to the battery are good. The last time the car was on was last Wedsneday. I just turned it on to back it up and then turned it off, that's it. Help what's missing!!! What about the ECU?? he has a spare L8, I have a L6 in it right now (3dr) any help will be greatly appreciated

Nope, just cranks but would not turn over . I swapped my coil, map sensor and ignition ampThings I did not check, crank sensor and phase sensor, was not sure how to check these (outside of replacing them). I had a similar problem with my car and it turned out to be the ECU, will my L8 work in his car...

Don't you guys ever sleep...

It might be worth cleanig the crank sensor as these cause loads of problems, or alternatively change it, as for phase sensor i have no idea.

All i used to do was wipe it over with either brake cleaner or WD40, i think you may need to undo it off the car to clean it, cant remember as mine has had no engine for 18 months

EscortWRC, my kids love your avatar

Erik, I did a search and came up with fuel pressure regulator as a possiblity (especially since there was a strong scent of fuel). My injectors worked fine maybe we can swap those in, also I guess we will have to take the dizzy cap off and examine the rotor and phase sensor.
Gav, I wiped the crank sensor as clean as I could, will try again with better lighting...

Later all, gotta get some sleep...

L6 ecu's are notorious for burning the earth on the board where the multiplug is soldered. check that.

Have you tested for a spark in the normal way? Check each lead?

Had similar before where the rotor arm was burnt out, and it didn't want to know apart from the odd cough here and there.

Did Svony replace the temp sensor in an effort to cure this non starting, or, has this situation occurred since temp sensor replaced for some other reason?

when he pulled the plug of the temp sensor check that the wires have NOT been pulled through the plug so they are NOT making a connection on the new sensor now

My bet is that its flooded. Running a car for a few seconds from cold (any car - even a brand new one) will leave it very prone to flooding. best bet is to throw a new set in (any that fit will do, its only to get it started) failing that, cook em with a blow torch then try again.
It may also be that the ignition system isnt 100% and giving a weak spark, thus adding to the flooding issue, check/replace cap/arm etc etc.

if it aint that...fuck knows! lol

As bernie suggested, if you have changed the temp sensor, could this not be the cause of the fault?

Yes checked for spark each lead had one. (grrr if it's the rotor arm, I got it not to long ago. LOL)

No car was running fine couple of days ago. If anything the idle was hunting when cold, I read here that it most likely would be the water temp sensor. Once the car didn't start the first thing to
be changed was the sensor, but nothing happend.

Even before He changed the sensor it felt a little loose, but nothing major?

Are you talking about the plugs?? the cap, rotor, sensors have been replaced June of 04 but the car has really only been driven in the last couple of months. Oh, BTW I have some cool video of your car, and Pictures! I was with the former owner when he bought it

yes to your 1st Q and MAYBE b4 u changed the sensor the wires inside were fine!

l8 ecu will work but you have to change the 2 outer wires round and use a 4x4 tps for it to work correctly

No luck, the car is parked outside, but by the time i get home it's dark and cold.
Thanks though, I'm going to have another crack on Saturday morning. I think the car knows that I'm getting another engine getting built with stand alone ecu. I think it's rushing me!
Ok, well it's going to have to be put in the garage and when it comes out, it should be a little bit better. I just wanted to drive it a little bit longer.
