Default MOT this morning....

Eeek.. on my ST24 i took a gamble off eBay with..

my anxiety is running an all time high!

I NEVER MOT cars, either run them into the ground till MOT n tax is out and scrap them, or sell them before its up..

All simple fixes (depending on how much welding is needed). £50 for a pair of eBay wishbones, £10 for a track rod end, and a bit of fiddling with the rear brakes!

Just going to flog it on i think, i paid £500 for it, paid £40 for MOT, thats £540, wishbones i can get a pair for about £40 , track rod end £10 ish, said it either needs a caliper or a handbrake cable, and the welding, it needs bodywork too, drivers wing and front bumper have shite paintjob, its not too bad, its got full service history, loads of other history, original bill of sale, been well looked after and he said its one of the best running and sounding V6s he had heard in a long while, so i think ill just cut my losses with it. was worth the gamble, i got lucky last time with a £600 focus that passed first time which i then sold on for £1440.. soo... and shes still got a months tax n test..

Just wanted something local. its my insurance thats the problem, i can only be insured on one car at a set time, two cars is double my premium, i cant have 2 cars on my policy until next year when im 25.. if i could get insured, or be insured to use two cars id probably keep it to be honest, it drives a lot better compared to my 2000 reg zetec ive got . the welding is on the sill. found it earlier, small patch about one and half inch square..if it was just wishbones and track rod id do it, its just i dont know anyone who can weld, and i dont know if it needs a brake caliper of a cable, he couldnt tell me, do these have one handbrake cable or two seperates? it had a handbrake cable for the last MOT you see.. and i dont see it being easy to pick up a second hand st24 caliper?? when it was on the brake tester i was watching it, and whenever he used the brakes or the handbrake, there was 2 bars of light on the testing machine top was left hand side, bottom was the right hand side, and then it gives percentage, the drivers side (offside was up to like 85% where as the nearside was only giving about 15 - 20% i think it was, and was worse with the handbrake test..

a friend of mine has offered to do all the work on it for £80.. thats the welding, fitting the new wishbones, track rod end, and sorting the rear caliper..

He suggested to me that it may be seized, and said to feel my discs all round after a short drive, the one it failed on it should be cold or cooler than the rest, i had my gloves on and the rest warmed my fingers very quick, but the nearside rear which failed didnt.

Tommorow morning going to see him to whip off the caliper and try and free it up, and tighten up the handbrake.

Then after speaking to my mate, that guy who MOT'd it is apparently a right prick and will fail it on the most minor things, so thats playing on my mind in it might not actually need all the bits if he was being funny about it (aside from the welding and brake caliper which were obvious)

Think i may try and save her.

Caliper may just be seized, mine were on my mondeo. Quick strip down and spray with WD40 and work the piston and handbrake lever a LOT and it eventually freed up, after this it adjusted up fine. Its worth saving fella, for the sake of a couple of wishbones and £80 for your mate to sort the rest.

My civic failed on parking brake efficiency aswell and it was due to a sticky caliper/brake, they just free'd it up and it past

It's got to be worth fixing as you'd be lucky to get your £500 back on a 24 with shitty paint and no MoT! You can get MoT'd examples for that kind of money.

Its only the bumper and wing tho.. its just the amount of history and service history it had with it in all the cars ive had never seen so much, and the way it drives shows for it, to be honest i didnt think the wishbones were knackered, they are on my zetec 2.0 and boy do you know it lol.. all the ones ive seen for around £500 with mot and tax have been right doggers, 3 times as much rust on the arches, all or most of the jacking covers missing, no history, ripped drivers seat, higher mileage.. i think i got a good all round one to be honest. i just hate MOT's..

Do we just take it off and work the piston in and out with wd40? are they push in or screw type? its a rear one? ta

Lets just hope i can... how much would it be worth with near enough 13 months MOT ( it still has 3 weeks on its current MOT ) 118,000 . about 12 stamps in service book (had a service every 12 months and sometimes 6 months, loads of reicepts, a months tax. mechanically and structurally sound, just shit paint on front bumper/drivers wing and usual slight arch bubbling?

lil update.. got the rear nearside brake working after an hour and half, well my friend did , inside pad was proper jammed, first suspicions were that the caliper was fecked or seized and it had minced the inner pad and welded itself to the disc or something, but the wheel span freely with the handbrake and footbrake applied whilst jacked up , after a lot of fannying around with the pissing thing he managed to get the back pad off, checked it wasnt seized (caliper was new at last MOT ! genuine ford too ! :O ) wirebrushed, filed, WD40 and a tube of copper grease later its working fine. My friend is going to get me a price on the parts tommorow as he gets them trade price, to ring the garage who MOT'd it and ask if the free retest within in 10 days actually is 10 days or 10 working days.

While he was doing that i got the autoglym super resin and a tea towel out poor thing has been put through car washes the last year by the looks of it, the lacquer coat is or was very misty with fine scratches all over the car, i did the passenger wing and passenger door as a trial, and fuck me, the back door and rear quarter look a different colour compared to it!

Getting the love for her now. going to rattle can the front bumper i think, its in dire shit state and is degrading the whole car, need a drivers wing too and maybe skirts as mine are cracked.

Determined to get the ticket on it now. id lost hope 24 hour ago
