Default rs500 spoilers ???

do i get rs500 spoilers and bumper in fibreglass or just leave looking like a 3dr with just the front splitter ....

i quite like the look of the 500 in moonstone but dont know what the fibreglass kit looks like when fitted and weather its any good....

also need a set of weather strips ...

ive decided to paint it moonstone and then paint the wheels in white and fit a white roll cage ???

Ive just got hold of a fibreglass copy RS500 front bumper for mine, I bought it from a mate who had it sat in his loft for years so I have no idea who made it - I have to say it does look very good quality though

I should be getting it painted up etc over the next month or so, you are welcome to pop over and have a look when its done - just down the road from you in Newbury.

Mine's moonstone but gone for dark wheels and dark cage

Sorry got carried away with pics I'm thinking about the rear spoilers as well- certainly the lower one.

I do wonder if you fit just the front RS500 bumper it'd make the back end look a bit puny?

I think it's best to do one or the other really.

Keep it looking like a standard 3dr, or add all the RS500 bits. I think they need the spoilers and bumper etc together really.

They look awesome either way of course, but I don't think mixing and matching quite works somehow!

years ago seven valleys had a car in one of the mags and it had a rs500 splitter on it which had been made a inch or so deeper now that looked good . I did have a look for one before now but no luck. I also maybe putting fibre glass bumpers and spoiler on mine as the weight difference is a lot .

Thanks mate, it's a safety devices saff cage. I bought it second hand for £250-£300 I think, can't remember the exact amount.

Saff cages will sit slightly forward of the B pillars but still fit and work fine

No chopping of dash required either

think you would only get 300 if your wheels are mint and complete with locks and keys.

average 3dr wheels with lock and keys go for 150-200, i know as im selling my ones off my project, but you will always get more by selling the locks off, then the caps and then the wheels - which i may do on the ebay.

front fibreglass bumpers are around 150-200 anyway - i paid a hundred for mine but it has a few chips and marks which will need sorting prior to fitting.

think paul@nyrs said they stick out as when the mould is made the bumper is not on the car. Apparantly for a perfect fit the mould has to be made whilst the bumper is still fitted.

I have a fibre 500 copy for mine but its new and has been sat in a workshop for a while so have no idea how it will be fitted but that is something the bodyshop will have to sort.

Pauls spot on with that as usual, the other reason I was told is that Ford were quite sneaky with the 500 bumpers and they bow out more on the sides than the 3dr one, this was on purpose apparently so that they could pump the front of the wings out more on the race cars without it being obvious to the officials, in order to get fatter rubber in the arch. if you look at the side of a genuine 500 bumper even when fitted perfectly the panel gap is huge on both sides. Being rigid a fibreglass copy cannot be coaxed into fitting like the flexi originals, the rebatch original ones were even more flexible again.

If any suppliers are reading this, there is a definate market for a well made RS500 carbon or fibreglass bumper bare outer skin moulded from a properly fitted original bumper, as they could then strip out the support structure from a normal 3dr cosworth bumper (which is virtually identical to the 500 ones, only needs very minor mod), and install that onto the skin and it would then be a very well fitting copy.

With originals now well over a grand again I would say if someone could supply such things on an exchange basis for a 3dr bumper, they could market such a service for a lot more than they charge for the current copies. They could also then sell the original 3dr skin as they are also in demand but to a lesser degree

Same with the rear upper fins, if they were moulded to include the proper fixing holes and copies made of the screw covers, once painted they would look and fit exactly like the originals that are also creeping up to a grand now.

If they do start racing the 500s again there will also be a steady need for such copies
