cheak the clutch fits on the main shaft of the box

they are most likely to be different so wont work

i think your gonna need a cosworth cluch and it may fit the fly wheel
depends on the diamiter

what im wondering is if i can get the cosworth friction plate to fit between my pressure plate, then i no it will fit the shaft,

getting a clutch to fit the main shaft shouldnt be a problem as its a commen 1" 23 spline shaft i think, the same as the type 9 and mt75 any way

Ive just sold the set up you will need... TTV racing do a flywheel for a zetec which uses a cosworth clutch and lines up with a cosworth starter! And you need a spigot bearing which I know retroford do!

Then the box will bolt straight up to the zetec block!

i no i can buy all the parts needed like the flywheel etc but im on a tight budget, and want to use as much as i can that i already have, im going to re tap the bellhousing to move the starter closer to the flywheel, spigot bearing isnt a problem am more worried about what release bearing to use?

check out my rebuild, some pics have gone tho for some reason https://passionford.com/forum/restor...-rs-turbo.html

You need a bigger flywheel mate. Fiesta EFi one is for a 220mm clutch, Cosworth items use 240mm, same as a Focus RS if it helps. 2.0 Zetec flywheel is 240mm.

MTX boxes use the same spline size as T5 boxes if that helps too, I had a 2.0 Zetec flywheel machined to except a machined Cosworth clutch using a Focus RS cover plate which MAY work on a T5.

Hope that helps you in some way and good luck

to save fucing about i also use a TTV racing flywheel, and helix 2wd cos 6 paddle clutch. then you just use the std 2wd cos starter.

dont forget the spigot bearing to go in the end of the crank - can still get these from ford.

I dont think youl get the starter any nearer the block to take a smaller flywheel chap..?! Also there isnt enough meat on the bellhousing to start making more holes further in surely? I looked into different flywheels at first asking a few guys in the know if there were flywheels that would fit but without luck! Then I found out about TTV's stuff...

Its fit and forget!

has anyone tried this to move the starter in,

reason im looking at doing this is i no my escort turbo that the engine came out of only used a 220mm flywheel and had no clutch slip whatsoever, with the ap pressure plate, i dont really want to spend 3-400 on a clutch starter, flywheel etc untill i prove the engine

cheers for any advice tho

I see what your saying..

If you can get a clutch for your flywheel with a spline which will eccept the cosworth shaft then theres no reason why it wont work I suppose...

You going turbo'd power or N/A, for me putting a fair amount of power through it I knew using a cosworth set up there were clutchs readily available for good power and torque..

Now your getting personal...

Billet gears are no better puddy, with nose flex on the crank and vibrations no gear is any better! Billet items are known for breaking as often...

RACING CLUTCH PLATE: COMPETITION SOHC PINTO/BDA 1"x23 SPLINE, 215mm

do we think this will match up ok? they do a standard one for Ł15 so i can try it out first but dont see a problem unless my pressure plate wont fit over the main shaft

the pressure plate 'should' fit over the input shaft of the T5 BUT you may have a problem wit the release bearing. iirc the kitcar guys use a combo clutch setup that needs something like a 19mm spacer between the bearing and the cover. or something along those lines.

it might pay to send doug - garage19 on here a pm about it, as he has a fair bit of knowlege on the subject and it was he that sorted me a TTV fly for my ZT.

release bearing isnt a problem, the capri 1.6 ohc should be the one for the job,

iv picked up my pressure plate today and i 1.8 friction plate jus for weighin up,

it wont be properly running for quite some time but i want to test the engine/ box etc if it goes aswell as it should i will upgrade

Im only going on what people have said not personal experience.. one of which was Ian saying he knew of billet gears breaking as often in high powered cars as standard items..

Wasnt the drag fiesta, the awsome 600hp thing running a silvertop rather than a blacktop? As I think he tryed a billet gear before drysumping... luke will know on that one as he speaks to him..

zetec to type 9 box is 1.8 zetec flywheel and mondeo zetec clutch and cover along with the Capri CT133 release bearing

thats what all the kitcar boys use (me included) T5 spline is same as a T9
i would guess swapping your cvh flywheel for a 2.0 zetec one may solve the starter problem and still allow using a zetec clutch

if your local to south herts i have a spare mondeo clutch cover and plate you could borrow to try getting hold of a 2.0 flywheel should be no probs

Seems to work really well, it was the route I was going to take I.e. Mixing and matching parts.

also if anyone wants to take this setup the parts i used are

cvh efi flywheel,
escort rs turbo pressure plate
2.0 pinto friction plate
capri 1.6 ohc release bearing

all can be bought uprated which i have and all are easy to get

wont no if the clutch will slip yet but im thinkin if you can send 300+ bhp through it in frd i should be ok

nearly forgot

1.8 cvh starter with cossy bellhousing retapped to suit which is pretty easy if you use the 1.8 cvh dirt shield as a template
