Default Got my ST24 :D

Finally managed to get the ST24 i was on about in another thread.

Paid £500, only got a months MOT and 3 months tax.

State blue, R reg.

Very happy!

Of course its going to have issues being an old Ford, but she is gorgeous with her dark blue paint and all round tinted windows. Shes standard other than that, and a backbox of some kind. but shes very quiet.. i want to hear that V6 more so im going to do something about the air filter later for now.

Issues to be addressed, mechanically she is sound, done 118 thousand, no headgasket issues as far as im aware, there is a noise coming from the belt side but it sounds like a dry bearing or just the belt... she sits between the R and M on the temp guage.. runs beautifully, only gripe is she feels a little sluggish? If you put your foot down, in whatever gear, she picks up very well and gets up to speed, but the power doesnt feel that instant if you get what im saying?

I need a drivers jacking cover the 2 front fog light surrounds parts wise

Drivers seat motor does work but doesnt raise or lower the seat?

Heater only works on number 4

Usually arch rot, few scratches here and there, im going to get a quote on the arches and get the bumpers repainted and side skirts too.

Only £7 a month more than my 2000 reg zetec 2 litre mk2 to insure aswell!

I was just going to mention this man ^^^^ above(fiddy) as a brilliant source of info on these cars.

Sluggish wise it's really just down to the fact it's a big car.I had the estate version and that was the same, although mine was a ghia, not St although I'm sure engine wise they were the same.only pulling off, once it was moving, nice rapid motor, probably a good service would help it no end.

One thing I did notice on mine was not long after I got it,I overloaded it with tiles and the backbox caught on a few speedbumps so I ripped it off,car sounded no different but was really responsive after that so maybe exhaust /filters the way to go on these?

All in all,you had a bargain mate, well done.

wouldnt worry about the belt mate, mine is a bit noisy, and mine was a brand new belt from ford not long ago. chances are, its the pulleys that are noisy

as for being sluggish, does it get a big boost in power at 3k+ revs, that feels like a power band ?. if not, your IMRC could be knackered, which is common as ford placed them on top of the front rocker cover, which gets very hot, and overheats them.

if you are getting the bosst in power, the sluggish feeling will be the UIM, LIM, and throttle body clogged up with shite from the EGR valve

Welcome to the ST24 club. As Fiddy says the UIM, EGR etc get very dirty, so worth a clean at that mileage. Also, Ford recommend spark plug change every 60K so your may need a change and can combine them with UIM clean.
If same as mine, your drivers seat plastic cog has broken. You can buy a new metal cog off fleabay, not cheap, and replace it, but cheaper than whole new mechanism. Ford in their wisdom fitted a plastic cog to turn the metal threaded bar!!!, so eventually somethings gonna give.
Anyways, enjoy, they are great cars, just have annoying faults, but I forgive mine hers.

Not 100% sure if the ST24 is the same as the ST200... but I removed the small snorkle that attaches to the side of the airbox, which leads to the resonator box, my ST200 had a panel filter fitted and it sounded amazing on WOT in the mid range. Plus, you don't get any of the wanky heatsoak bollox that you get with an open cone filter.

Cheers,
Grant

Got some tune up bits going if your intrested 65mm throttle body that would help with pickup daztec uni chip ramps up fueling + 10 bhp so they say carbon bellows fits from TB to air box bit more pick up and maybe ST200 air box ho and the belt noise might be the idler pully sits between the alt and steering pump.
If you wont the tune up bits pm me.

just buy a proper enclosed induction kit like mine. there not cheap, and you dont get that throaty roar at full throttle that you do with a normal induction kit, but they flow a lot more air, and you dont get heatsoak

I was just gonna drill bottom half of the box and put and panel filter in it.

Im going to remove the centre box out of it, its got some kind of cat back system on it. but it sounds standard?

Ive put £25 in it this morning, and been out most the day, mixed driving, done 70 miles... i reckon ill get another 15 - 20 out of it before the light comes on seems bit better than my 2.0 blacktop tho :S

Really enjoying it, want to get the body polished up tommorow and then list all the bodywork issues she has and get them done.. these are getting rarer and id like to keep her.

Fiddy, it doesnt have any power boost at all, its sluggish up to about 2000 revs, then it just climbs thru the rev range, power is smooth all the way through? Doesnt feel all that quick to be honest.. but my mate said theyre just more of a cruiser than racer lol

where abouts is the imrc? anyone got a pic? and how will i know if its bust?

cheers (pics 2moro! )

rite, your IMRC is knackered, and your inlet manifolds, and throttle body need cleaning out. there not the quickest cars, but for what they are, they go very well once you get them moving, it shouldnt feel sluggish

the IMRC is under the platic cover on the front of the engine that says duartec 2.5 V6 blah blah blah

under here

For any ST24 spares i would start with Nick (username stsolutions on here). He sells on Ebay under the name global-mondeo-st-solutions. I have used him once and the service was excellent even before i placed my order. I think Fiddy uses him a lot so he will tell you how good he is. Good luck getting the car sorted mate.

yes mate. mine is worse when its cold, once it warms up its not as bad, but its still noisy. like i said, its usually the pulleys, not the belts. mine has a brand new ford belt on it, and previous MK3 V6 Zetec-S was the same, fitted a brand new belt from ford, was still noisy.

Hello all.

I can reply properly now been a mad one today havent stopped since 9am and didnt get in from work till 3am last night so as u can imagine im proper chaka demus'd!

Well i have around 140 mile in her, mixed driving, went Leamington to check out the fanny so yeh town driving, A road cruising and the occasional tear arse off the lights up to about 70

Can't fault her too much for her age. The only thing thats annoying me is when cornering left at speed, theres like a clicky/rattle sound that sounds like someone rattling 2 marbles in a tin or something? but only happens when cornering left at speed.

heater only works on number 4, so ive either been freezing fooking cold tonight, or baking hot

Washers dont work, well the back one does, but when you do the front it just pisses the water out the bottom of the bumper

Rear wiper motor is fecked, when you turn it on, it sort of wiggles, then flys all the way back, trys to do a full circle but then falls off the glass and stops

Headlight and fog light bulb out on passenger side (minor)

Im going to rob all the bits i need off the silver one tomorow, well bulbs and heater panel.

I was going to change the wheels over to the 5 spoke 16s off the silver zetec i have, but i havent got the locking wheel nut key for the 24

Basically tommorow im going to wash her, there is an awful lot of salt on the roads! polish her and see what bodywork needs doing, but i think its just arches bumpers and skirts,, theres a lot of stress cracks in the paint on the front bumper and skirts think theyve been repainted before (job went to shit) lol

Need the fog light surrounds and a drivers jacking cover. theres a guy about 5 mile from me who breaks ST's and hes dirt cheap so i might give him a bell.

Proper raped my account today with buying this, rent and car insurance so things will have to wait

Is there any visible way of checking the IRMC is fecked? Il try get a video of me driving it..see what you thinkk

chattin waffles now! quick side pic.. ill upload more 2moro after a wash

your clicky/rattle noise will prob be the antiroll bar link or the wheel bearing

The washers not working on the front will be the plastic pipe has come out of the rubber hose off the motor all easy enough to sort

Im going to have a play with her today. I was hoping it would be the shaft as theyre easier to fix than a wheel bearing

You can check it by looking under the throttle body - you should see a metal rod. Rev the engine to 3000-3500rpm if the rod doesn't move the IMRC isn't working.

I've got an IMRC going cheap if you need one. The plastic clip on the end has broken, but you can easily swap it for the one on yours if needs be.

They aren't really that quick to be honest - More of a lover than a fighter

Yes it has tinted windows, thanks for offering to look at her too xr4x4.. sorry its hard to reply to everyone at time.. one minute ive got a couple of replies, a couple of hours later ive got 20+ lol..

Ive got a vid to upload of me driving her. and some piccies today, but mainly piccies of work that needs doing. had a bit of a shit day with her to be honest. washed her cus she was filthy, bodywork is 85% okay.. back bumper needs repainting as do skirts, front bumper, its cracked in a couple of places, not sure what to do with it, changed the headlight bulb ( which was blown ) out of my other one ( which worked ) and it still doesnt work, so im thinking and hoping the fuse popped when the bulb went? attempted to fix the washers not working, and yes, both the pipes have come off the washer pump, but theres literally no space, i couldnt get the rest of the undertray/arch guard off,it was getting dark and then managed to slice my hand on summet under there, and then the salt and shit from under the car got into it and i had tears in my eyes it stung that much.. so gave up and left it managed to screw the back bumper side back on as it was sticking out, but it was when i did this i found a nasty suprise behind the turret carpet on drivers side

Dont know whats caused it, wheres leaking and why its there? any ideas?

Other than that, it has these issues it needs sorting, bodywork wise.. oh and some other pics of things i liked..

Parcel shelf with working cords! rare...

Brand new unused spare!

Stress cracks and general shite state of front bumper, missing foglight surrounds, has crack under headlight, shite fillerwork repair on drivers side by wing and crack on bottom lip -

Passenger rear arch (worst one)

Drivers rear arch

Rear Bumper scuffs/scrape (i think the bumpers been rattle can painted )

Dull painted, (rattle canned again?) drivers front wing -

Video of her in action.. this was flooring it off the lights, i went upto 3rd gear then had to slow down, this look/sound ok? im going to check the IRMC tomoro.. -

View My Video

Im quite happy with her, shes original, and for her age, what needs doing is relatively minor..can anyone recommend a decent bodyshop in leicestershire area?

The MOT is up on Feb 19th this year, so next weekend im taking it for an MOT and the outcome of that will be what decides the fate of this car.. if it needs too much, welding and crap ill just sell it on or break it, if its just silly cheap bolt on parts.. ill fix it and carry on with it. Until the MOT im not spending or buying out for it, she cleaned up well otherwise, one little car park ding on drivers back door. Its just the bumpers and skirts that need doing and the rear arches..

ive got loads of pics of you working on my car mate. those few doing the springs were early doors, when the first strut dropped out a piece of piss, after that, it got very difficult, and ended up with you screaming, shouting, and swearing, so i didnt think it was a good time for taking pics mate

Mines booked in for MOT this weekend. Cant see what it can/would fail on.

Possibly pass front wheel bearing/cv joint/driveshaft ( clicking when turning left at speed )

Front window tints are bit dark,

Sticky rear drivers door handle (door opens and closes fine you just have to push the handle down before you shut it )

Front fog bulb blown

Rear Wiper dont work

Otherwise seems ok
