Default Mondeo Headlights etc

Looking at getting a ST24 very soon, maybe have one at the weekend/next week all being well.

I want to do the black effect on the standard headlights, is this easy to do? Do they come apart easy? ie clipped or glued? I had some rover ones i did they were glued and had to use a heat gun to get them apart and yeh they looked good done but always steamed up? Just wondered how easy they were to do ?

Also whats that black plastic splitter i see on the bottom of a lot of ST24s? Is it the seat leon cupra one?

Finally, whats the best lowering springs for an ST24? and what drop? 30 - 40mm ? obviously dont want to smash the bumpers

Thanks

The lights come aprt if you place them in a warm oven for a couple of minute or use a heat gun to sotfen the glue.

The splitter is indeed a Cupra R but they are now getting so common I am thinking of taking it off mine.

I have droppe dmy 200 estate by 40mm all round and it can not be parked by akerb as it will catch every time so I would go for a set of PI 30mm springs.

its finding a set thats the problem. new sets are like hens teeth, and second hand sets are few and far between, then you got the price issue. average second hand sets go for between £150 - £200, and a lot of the time, the lenses need replacing as there prone to rusting, and genuine lenses are about £70 per lens, and there are 4. you can get around that problem, and buy cheap halfords lenses at £22 for 2, but they look awful.

if your not confident about doing the black eyes yourself, you could buy a set thats already been done. there are plenty about, and a set can be had for as little as £40, then you got your standard lights as spares.

as for lowering, mine's -35mm all round, the front isnt to bad, but i cant reverse into spaces with reasonable size kirbs, because my rear bumper catches, and unless i crawl over speed bumps, at a certain angle, my exhaust catches on them.

there is a place that does morette spares aswel, but by the time you have bought all the parts to build a set, your looking at the neck end of £600. i was lucky with mine, i got them just under a year ago, brand spanking new, for £250, but that was after searching for a set for months, and asking everyone on the mondeo scene to look for a set. in the end, the guy i use for my spares, who breaks V6 mondeo's for a living found me a set. they still had the date of manufacture stickers on them, october 1997, and i got them in february 2010, so they had been sat somewhere, brand spanking new, for the neck end of 13 year, so i was lucky to get them.

as for lowering, pay a garage to do it, it will snap at least one hub bolt, and unless you have the rite drill and bits, drilling the fucker out will be a nightmare. i genuinely wouldnt recommend anyone lower a MK2 mondeo, unless you have a ramp, air tools, and heat. i know a guy who had his own garage, so had all the gear, did a lot of work on cars off the mondeo forums, and had an ST24 himself. he said on average, with all the rite tools, you were looking at a good three to four hours to change the springs, because 99.9% of the time, the pinch bolts snap. so he started heat them up before removing them, as when he didnt, they would snap, and he would spend most of his time drilling the fuckers out.

im sure glenn who posted above, will be along to tell you the fun of lowering mine. 7 hours, two burnt out drills, loads of snapped drill bits, cuts, bruises, and a lot of swearing

No, they're satin black underneath. T Cut takes the chrome off and leaves a perfect finish. It's a piece of piss to do.

If you are lowering it make sure you do the front 10mm more than the rear. The front arches are much larger than the rear so you need the extra drop to get the wheel to arch gap the same. I did my ST24 40mm all round and I was never 100% happy how it looked..

I think you can buy 40/50 kits but it's a while since I was looking..

you can. my mate has one on his, looks the part, but drives like a boat. you hit anything bigger than a pebble, and its like hitting a brick. cant park anywhere near a kirb, and cant go anywhere near a speed bump. plus, the 50/40 kits are not top make brands, and my car, lowered 35mm on spax, has a lot less body roll than his, handles, and drives a better, and thats his words, not mine.

but, as said, it does look the part, sits perfect
