Max Power, final issue...
...anyone bought it yet?
Came out today, I picked a copy up earlier. The purple Dimma 205 is on the cover fom the very first issue, with the back half of the mag being devoted to all the stuff they've done over the years. Not read it all properly yet, but a nice little momento at least.
Comes with a poster with all the mag covers on it, it's shocking how many of them I owned back in the day!
Also, there's a section on all the editors, and I notice for the 2007-08 slot, they've just said "Someone else" and "Mucked things up for Max and the scene". Who was that? Dan or any of the other mag peeps know?
Anyway, free reminder for anyone that was thinking of getting it. I think it will probably be come back some day. There was mention of a few special issues I think, but I wouldn't be surprised if it made a full return eventually.

I'll be off out bit later to purchase one. The very 1st Max Power I bought was when I was 13 and it was I think an April 1997 issue with a blue Renault 5gt turbo on the cover and fell in love with the mag till about 2001 when I realised it was all just silly plastic cars and ridiculaaarse sound systems. Will be sad to not see it on the shelfs anymore tho!

It seems that the MAX POWER car scene has changed , 10 years ago the car scene was a lot different than it is today so the mag would have done well . Used to buy it in the late 90's , was a good read then .

I reckon it sold well because hormonal boys could look at pictures of girls with few clothes on, without having the embarrassment of being seen buying a girlie magazine.
Can't think of any other reason it sold...

I can think of a whole list of reasons why it sold!
It tapped into a massive market without even realising it. It gave people something to read like they'd never had before and covered a whole lifestyle, from half naked birds, to arsing about in cars.
It not only reported on the modified car scene, at it's height, it SHAPED the modified car scene.
I wonder how many people on this website wouldn't even be into cars if it wasn't for that magazine. It must have got thousands and thousands of people into the modified car scene who are still around today.
Max Power seems to have a reputation for only featuring cars with tiny engines and big body kits, but I can remember seeing no end of big power stuff in there. I wonder, if it hadn't been for Max Power, would all the legends of Top Secret Skylines and Supras be around today? Would a lot of the UK tuning companies even exist?
We may not have liked everything they did, or everything they published, but no one can possibly deny it was a very very successful magazine, that did an awful lot to influence and shape the modified car scene as it is today.

My life revolved around max power when i was 13. sad but completely true. I bought it from about 1997 to 2002. had every month.
but there was 1 issue with a car that had 4 tv's under the bonnet and i thought... hang on a minute, thats not really "max" power is it!
but i loved it. went to max live and everything. it was a huge part of my teenage life and helped shape who i am now without doubt.

What makes me giggle about the women thing, a lot of those saying how sad and pathetic it is, I bet loads of them would go to the Gatebil shows where they have loads of scantily clad lasses too and they'd all be creaming in their pants, not to mention I bet they all look through the men's room on here with glee

i went out and bought this yesterday for old times sake.back in the day when i was starting out in the trade i loved this magazine, the latest goodies out on the market, yes i admit the half naked birds in it but the styling lengths people went to just to get cover.used to buy this, revs, redline, fast car each and every month plus max power live was immense.
over time i grew out of the big kitted thing but it still paved the way for the scene that alot of people love today
R.I.P Max Power

Wasn't maxy p a staff writer?
Is there something you should be telling yourself
IIRC he had a nice mk1 golf gti that he blew up, then it spent 2 years getting rebuilt into a rather nice motor.

bought he mag yesterday and i have a few words
the back to what made it great sections are great, as long as they are talking about the cars
the rest of the mag however is pants
there is no denying the quality of the motors they've got in there, they are all very very different, but it's the tits on show that don't make it family friendly, i certainly couldn't bring it home to show my son what it's all about, let alone the wife
and the rest of the mag, if you changed the title to something other than max power, i can see it struggle to sell many copies
times have changed and max failed to change with them, from being an originator it became a bit too lazy and the name was thought to hold enough clout to keep it going and while everyone else changed the game it suddenly found itself out of sync
one thing i couldn't understand though was what happened in their editors choice when they've missed out one who "was shit"?
can anyone shed any light?
mind you, the inside back ocver is absolutly spot on

Interesting points raised here.
I don't think anyone can ignore what Max Power did for the scene. It literally set the path for the way many mags are made today IMO.
I, like many remember vividly my first Max Power, and how it got me into cars/the scene and most importantly journalism. Without one shadow of a doubt I wouldn't be writing for a car magazine now if it hadn't been for Max.
You simply can't possibly tarnish them as a chav mag of the past.
I'll be buying the new one, like others for old times sake.
