btw, the sierra has both fog and reverse lights on both sides of the car so if the passenger side one is working it'll be fine

As said that will pull or knock out and I've done it a few times before on mates cars That's a cracking offer of Danny's and I'm sure it'll be 100 times better after that has been knocked out.

pull it out, you have nothing to lose, put a big fuck off chunk of wood in the read and pull it from outside, if you wanna be careful you can tie it and push by hand but no way would i drive it like that more than once
deffo bend it out tho just to see, its not gonna get worse and you may be lucky and find it comes out nice and you can get some colour over the clucter and get it legal again

just a thought if the coppers are going to get pedantic - the number plate lights are usually in the bumper so you would need to do something about some more of those.

i can't see why you are struggling to get a hire car out of the insurance though. you are the third party claiming on the other person's insurance and entitled to one. if you have not done so already, get a specialist law firm on the case and it should get sorted immediately. in any case, you could just hire one off your own back and claim the costs from the other insurers.

Hope Danny can get it sorted (great offer ) and it might not be the right way to think - but do you not reckon you might create the wrong impression turning up for your first day in a new job in a stoved in modified sierra with a towing board nailed to the back?

Surely pushing for a hire car off insurance or borrowing/buying a more mainstream motor while this is sorted has got to be the way to go?

I wouldn't drive it like that personally but I am sure after Danny has had his hands on it it should be fine or fit for purpose .I bought a 3dr years ago that someone had rear ended and the insurance wrote it off.A piece of would across the shocker tops and put wood over the damage on the rear panel.Quick pump of a bottle jack and you hardly tell after, granted it wasn't as bad as that but but £150 for tiger striped looker with all the kit, wheels, bonnet and a good specced 2.1 also taxed .How could I refuse It flew a test too.
Can we see pics of the repair as well please Also I just remembered I did have a mk4 escort diesel that a bus run into the back of,pushing me into the car in front. The doors overlapped and the rear cluster was destroyed.I painted some new bulbs and covered it with clear plastic, loads of gaffer tape on the pointy bits and all was well until the insurance payed out.I never got pulled in it either.

give theseguys a ring.
my brother had an accident about a year ago, he was driving down the road when some silly bint who was illegally parked opened her door into the side of him, writing off both cars.
they gave him a 6 month old car, sorted everything out and then just took the hire car back when the claim was sorted and he had a cheque.
didnt cost a penny.

thats what i was thinking.
i would take the wheels off it, sell them for 500, open the local ads and use the money to buy a cheap t&t'd mondeo or something and have something normal to drive in peace.
can always buy another set of wheels in the future.
plenty of time to do it too..

I used to work for them on the sales side mate, and can tell you that when I worked for them (granted 4 or 5 years ago now) that we wouldn't touch a modified car with a bargepole (particularly in this case as the book value for a B reg Sierra must be all of £25, and the hire car must be "like for like"), and given that the other side has not accepted fault in any way they will doubley not be interested.

They essentially provide credit hire of a car which they charge back to the at fault party's insurer, but have to be 99% sure they'll get their dough back. As the twat's that did it have not accepted liability there's a fair bit of doubt as to whether costs can be recovered and as such credit hire companies (not just AX - Help Hire etc provide a similar service) will naturally be wary of taking it on.

Give it a try but I'd be surprised if you get a good result.

i know a guy that could repair that car and straighten it all out

but for me hes not the best painter due to not having an oven, so could be worth when its paid out to have it repaired by someone like him and then have the whole car blow over by your bodyshop of choice......

good luck mate hope all works out

use a dozer and the portapower on it to push it out enough on different points so you've got the rear panel "straight" and job done

i remember using a security post to tie an xr3i to and then we drove backwards to pull the big dent out the front

Assuming this to be someone else's fault, phone some car hire firms, a lot of them are willing to give a conditional hire car and bill direct to the insurer(yours) who then reclaim it from guilty party, if your car is not in a legal condition following some ones else's fault you are entitled to this, I had this years ago a brand new 1400 mile old focus when gf's mk2 astra was hit, broke the rear light, plod gave me permission to drive home and no more, so courtesy car for 3 weeks whilst they paid up.

when i smashed up the subaru and it was PROPER fucked and wrapped round the lampost i used a tow rope round the same lampost and reversed it to pull the front end straighter and allow the bonnet to catch the lock to secure it,,,, this is how it looked after a QUICK pull in reverse once,,,,, in the snow might i add !

and after, take into account the sides of the bumper where FULLY extended out and instead of it facing the back the car where the shit shield joins it was like it was holding its arms out, i never took pictures as i had to move the car as it was at the bottom of a icey hill,,,,,, was worried someone would slide on the ice and crash into me,,,,,, as i just slide down the hill on the ice

not bad for 10 mins work IMO as i managed to drive it home too
