Driving cars with body damage?
i start a new job in 2 weeks, and going to need transport to and from and was going to use the sierra.
i know its NOT illegal to drive a car with no rear bumper as i have been pulled over for that before, but as the sierra has no rear light cluster i was thinking about getting a trailer light board and nailing it to the back and wiring up the lights etc and using the sierra if i have to, as i very much doubt the insurance will be sorted by then.
someting like this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Maypole-4ft-Tr...item2eb268b96b
i know that on the front end your not allowed sharp edges etc, but its rear damage in this instance.

I doubt it conforms with the type approval before the crash anyway
no sharp edges, brakes and fuel being safe and lights conforming to the required specs is the main thing really.
with your cage i doubt they could argue its not structurally sound as its stronger to start with.

ill do whatever needs doing RE the lights, just wondering about the damage thats all.
i have been offered the use of a pulldozer by vaughant off here, so might take him up if i cant get a hire car off the insurance.
so might be able to pull the panels out a bit, but then the boot wont shut
Ł10 odd for one of those trailer boards will do tho if im not likly to get arrested for driving a fucked car

thing is if your being followed by a copper then you WILL get pulled. that in itself is garunteed. but they cant give a ticket unless its unroadworthy. If lights and all major mot'able systems are working/repaired and all sharp bits blunted then what can a copper actually ticket you for?? he isnt in a place to make any comment on the ability of the car to withstand another crash. In reality it would be fine because of the cage. whats crushed there is all crumple zone. Still plenty of crumple left

Not that it makes it ok, but I've seen worse on the road!
If it were a less valuable car I'd say have a bash (literally) at straightening it out a bit then cover it in gaffer tape, no sharp edges!
I also saw an old P100 Sierra recently using a trailer board nailed to the back instead of it's own lights.

where abouts are you mate? ive got a standard mk1 sierra bumper here you could use, dont want anything for it but depends how far away you are, and look for some xr4i's being broken as you could ask them to cut out the bits you need and you can always do a quick diy job on a bit of cuting and welding ofc it wont look perfect but itll get your car into a useable condition cheaply

im near swindon mate. a month or so ago i woul have had it as i was working around that way during the week.
i know no rear bumper is not an offense as i got pulled on the way back florm chips old place after a drifting incident that removed the rear bumper lol. the sargent said its not an mot fail, so fuck off but the car is a shitter lol.
if it comes to it, ill use it with a board. if i get pulled so be it. but if the insurance are pissing about taking their time and wont give a hire car, whats a man to do!

First second the cops see that, (not even Traffics) and you'll be pulled. The fact that it happened weeks before just makes you look more of a liability....
I would say its very likely that would get impounded.
Bumper missing isn't in itself a problem, but lots of sharp edges are!

its bent to fuck mate. a rear bumper is not an mot requirement! just that working lights are.
and i wont get a set of 3dr lights for Ł10, nor be able to smash the panel out to fit them.
so self tapping a board to the boot and wiring up the lights for little more than Ł10 sems ideal if it means i can get to work!
im willing to take the risk until something stops me!
