What are MK6 Escort RS2000's like to live with? UPDATED with pics
I'm thinking about buying one as a runner for around £1k. What are they like to live with day to day? I've always liked them, and owned two but broke both of them due to rot, so I know they can be hiding lots of rust.
Not overly concerned with economy as I'm happy as long as I get around 35MPG on a run as I'm used to it.

It's only something to cut around in until the RST is on the road, Dave, so that suits me. I was just thinking nice looking, Recaros, electrics etc would make a tidy car that won't loose any money when I come to sell it. I know they 'aint massively quick, but they do sound nice with an exhaust and filter.

My mate has one and i tink he gets on fairly wellwith it. I drove it all the way from kent from the guy we bought it of on here and it was fine. His is the 4x4 one. has a full magnex with 2 silencers. Sounds nice under acceleration and at about 70 you can get the throttle right so you cant even hear te exhaust but open it up and it screams. Another mate had one years ago with group n rally exhaust and it used to sound ace but he changed it for a magnex . Fool lol

I'd go as above with the gti instead.same looks, nice interior but a slightly lower powered motor.easy to convert to 2.0litre if your that bothered but to get 35mpg out of the Rs you clearly wont be driving fast anyway!!!
A few in my freeads under £500,grand seems to get you a minter.

i had a mk5b and it was the best car i ever had,not the best on fuel but it did everything pretty well, had crap tyres so was quite tail happy.i loved it and regret selling it but had no use for it as i needed an estate.
my pal bought a gti,was crap compared to the rs,on the way home we were up some really good roads, had to keep stopping so he could catch up,seats werent very supportive,he changed for rs seats, brakes werent that good,rs brakes are bigger.
i paid £1650 for my mk5 earlier this year and sold it for £1700 after doing about 6000 miles and didnt spend a penny on it.

I had the rs2k engine in my old escort mk5 cabriolet and fair play it was strong, pulled hard all the time.I think Lee may have a point with the gti as they were built more as an insurance pleasing rs2k,well when they first came out they were anyway as that's why all the boys in work with me bought them,so I suppose the rs2k was a bit more purpose built, although I did hear that on the mk6 they cut out a few of the goodies and their not as good as the mk5/b models?

Cheers for the input guys. I've bought it anyway. Pick it up on Sunday. Only a 460 mile roud trip but looks like a great car for real good money. Should munch the miles up to Catterick and back anyway and keep the RST tucked up safe.

I had one and it was a good fun car. Mine ended up needing work though. Hopefully it will do you ok though. Tends to be a lot of niggly issues on the cheaper ones.
I'd have another though. Let me know when you want to sell it

A couple of quick pictures after I picked it up. Lovely drive home through the
Lake District. It's in better nick than I expected and all the electrics work properly and the Recaros are mint.
Got a Clifford cat1 remote alarm, KW V1 coilovers, 17 OZ Superleggeras and a full Magnex system. Also, every MOT from new, origional bill of sale, full Ford main dealer service history upto early 2006 when it was sold on 80k odd miles (on 94k now), Since May 2010 it's had alot of work, new wheel bearings all round, new wishbones, new fuel pump and lines, new front tyres, new fusebox totalling £2,500! It pulls all the way to the limiter and it's quicker than I expcted if I'm honest. Really chuffed, it's a cracking little car.
Few little niggles, the passenger rear arch has blistered and the bottom of the drivers wing has rotted so theres a bit of movement in the bottom of the wing but for what I paid (pretty little ) I can't moan at all.
Who ever say's the RS2000 isn't a "Proper RS" needs their head checked. It's a fantastic little car.

How much do you want for it?
Think these are probably the most under rated RS out there. Can be had very cheap and definately put a smile on your face. I'd love another for a daily.

Yeah I noticed the high handbrake. I'll get and adjust it when I get it in the air. The passenger side has bubbled right where the bumper meets the arch and then again right at the top of the arch, you can just see in the pic, but the drivers side looks fine.
I picked it up From Windermere in the Lake District. Looks like it's been local to that area all it's life.

since its already had a fuse box fitted its worth checking where the alarm siren ahs been fitted as most fitters seem to fit them on the drivers side just under the scuttle which is right above the fuse box,
water runs through the hole they usualy drill for the wiring which just so happens to drip onto the fuse box which may have caused the previous failure although the fuse boxs are a common problem its worth looking at the above just to rule it out
