its definitely a insurance right off but it is repairable in the real world get the car on a good jig put a new home made flat floor in with a new leg rear panel & 1/4 panel second hand tail gate , bumper & lights .so when the insurance assessor rights it off take the option to buy it back for 10% of settlement figure the car would be on a cat d right off which is fook all now a days get it repaired for cash & have cash left over .![Top](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/smile011.gif)
if it was mine i would repair it in a week back on the road with a pocket full of cash .

Gutted!
But as said there's a silver lining, I have seen worse damage repaired, only going through insurance will most likely deem it a write off and a lot of headaches. So paying out of your own pocket would be the sensible option, that is if you want to keep it...
Did you just volunteer to repair it???

when you said pikeys,i thought you meant real pikeys? i.e caravans, bare knuckle fights the ones you do not mess with ,bit my mates ear off as he had a one-on-one with one and the gypo was losing a few days ago a very handy mate of mine got a very bad cut eye off one and believe me my mate could have hospitalised him easily but real pikeys its not worht the hassle
if they are your usual pikey/chavs that live in a house take it on dont back down at all

thanks for all the comments lads.
the impact was pretty hard, the cage saved a lot more damage imo!
dusted the snow off earlier, and the panel gaps are fucked. N/S a pillar to front wing can get a finger in, n/s door gaps can also get a finger in, n/s rear quarter is twisted, o/s rear chassis leg is bent down, o/s door gaps are minimal - almost touching and o/s front wing to a pillar is normal looking lol.
inside the boot it has split the seam sealer on the n/s upto the rear turret, and the o/s rear, well thats just fucked.
hopefully the assessor will be round tomoz, but i think i already know what he is gonna say.
if i get a payout for the full value its insured for then i will be happy, will also buy the car back, but only to break!
i think im done with it tbh, not gonna have any time once the now overdue baby arrives!
although will did suggest getting an escos shell and sticking it all in that
i do like that idea, but would prefer a westfield lol.
if i do get the full ammount paid out, it will pay for a reasonable family car, and a new kitchen!
and thanks to pee vee, turns out they more than likely live very local. but with that info i dont think ill fuck about, as i have a family to think of if i get caught out
on the upside i did have some good news yesterday, i was offered a new job for about half the hours i do now, and a lot more money! only down side to that is, my daily drive has just been wrote off

surely regardless of the police claiming they need to catch the driver in car, surely from your point of view (and the insurers) all you need is forensic evidence from the front of the van (which you know where it is) to prove its hit your car and hence its a closed case in insurance terms. ie the vans insurance pays.
Will the registered keeper get done for failing to identify the driver?? or are they not bothering because of the paperwork??

will, if i could get an escos shell for Ł500 id buy it!
dont know if ALL the stuff would swap over tho?
anyway, bad news about your injury mate, you clearly came worse off!
warren, they sent out a NIP for failing to stop, but i cant see them replying
so i reckon its gonna be a long drag till its sorted...

Have the police been informed of the vans whereabouts and have you got a mate to take photos of it so youve got evidence? A few date stamped photos should be enough to satisfy the insurance company to press his insurance for answers far quicker than a 28 day NIP.
you seriously dont want this to take till its got to court to force him to admit liability. 28 day NIP, 28 day warning over NIP, then could be 6 months or more before it gets to court.

Blimey, not exactly a bad area then. Occasionally see a nice 3dr parked in a driveway there. A mate of mine drives through there 4 times a day, I'll get him to keep an eye out.
On another note, his wife is about to drop any day now, so you might be in the hospital together!

but maybe a car being soft is not such a bad thing as the shell in all its twisting absorbs loads of the impact which would otherwise go to the occupants
fudgey: from your inspection it does sound like the shell took a lot more of an impact than it even looks, i would not write it off yet though (in technical terms not insurance assesed obviously) or consign to a reshell. it is possible to pull the back out and fit a few new panels and yes your panel gaps around the car wont be factory perfect, but cover it in stickers and use it as a track car which it basically was anyway and if you prang it how bad, at least you got some value from the shell. it is still probably a strong safe shell because of the cage..
