Default Wastegate arm in wrong position ??

these are the limits of the arm. should it stop parallel to the exhaust flange on opposite sides ?

got problems running anymore than 15psi.

everything else seems ok.

Undo the comprssor housing bolts

Move the compressor housing clockwise very slightly untill it matches up.

Make sure you do NOT damage the gasket which is sandwiched between the compressor housing and the backplate.

i have had this before, it looks like your wastegate penny panel arm has twisted. in the top picture the arm needs to be positioned further back by approx 45 degs.

for some reason i have seen them in that position before without being twisted it may be worth your while to grind the weld off the top plate and reposition it then re weld it and see if it stays there.

Waniac......

There are 6 or so bolts that hold the Compressor Housing on. Slacken those 6 bolts and simply rotate the Compressor housing until it lines up better. The only restriction to doing this are your hoses and whether it puts them at funny angles. Thinking about it, it wont affect the Inlet Hose (the one to the Airbox), but may affect the Compressor Outlet.

As Jano says, there is a paper gasket between the Comp Housing and the Body of the turbo. But as long as you rotate the housing carefully, there wont be a problem.

Alternatively, bend the Actuator Bracket with a pair of Moleys until it lines up, this isn't the favourable method as it might weaken the bracket.

Incidentally, how long has it been like this?? Has it been rebuilt? They sometimes come back from being rebuilt with the housings slightly out of line.

It doesn't look that far out of line, but you don't want the Actuator not to have a straight line of travel, because it will not do it any good.

HTH.

cheers christian.

Iv just been down to the garage and can I FOOOOOOOK get any bolts to come loose.

maybe better to remove the turbo and get cleanin and de-rusting

it doesn't look like theres enough room to just pull the turbo away, do you have to split the manifold or anything ?

rotating the housing will not alter the angle of the arm.
i would also look at getting a proper damper asembly on as well or you may end up with snapped ex studs.
