As I stated above, you buy a car and there's a marker of any description on it,they'll stop you!!if the previous owner was known to the police, they'll still stop you, thats what their supposed to do really, use their instinct.

If they could combine this with common sense there'd be far more crimes dealt with and less redtape!!!still, that's another topic.

As long as the op writes a letter explaining all this,he'll be fine.

Seriously lads, don't believe everything you see on roadwars or believe what you read in the daily mail,a lot of police have absolutely no idea what the law is any more than you or I,sorry if that offends people but I've had someone try and remove a car from outside my house because it was parked in their eyes "illegally".

As it's dark I can't take a photo but it was basically parked against the flow of traffic,no double yellow lines, restricted parking or anything else.the road is at that point wide enough for say 5-6 cars!!!

The only reason I knew was that I noticed a recovery van on my drive tryi g to reverse to remove the car,I opened the door and joked with him that I hoped he wasn't taking my car and to my horror he was!!!thank fuck I'm a big cunt cos he was told politely to fuck off my property and I moved the car away.

Much shouting down the phone later lead to the never wrong cops kind of apologising .

Funny how for the next three weeks I got stopped three times in that car, once when I'd moted and taxed it that day!!I offered the jumped up cop to drive the 400yds to my house to present him with my insurance document and paperpart of my licence, not interested.

So yes,if they want to be cunts they can!

IT DOSE NOT WORK LIKE THAT as they are independent and not no the police pay roll . i had this with my motocross bike it cost me Ł150 to get it off the recovery company but they had to have a letter off the police by FAX and i had to have the same letter to get it back the police had a bill of Ł680 for the storing it . the police gave me a number to ring to get a address to send a letter to which had to be my side of the story and they would look into it but they said they were not 100% shower i would get it. at the end of the day i gave in as i had the bike back

All you saying the OP is lying havent really thought about what your going on about.

If he had recently bought the car and the previous owner was still on the MID he would be able to buy his tax online. When the police pulled him HIS name wouldnt be insured on the car, hence they seized it for being driven without insurance as his named hadnt been updated on the MID.

He was pulled on Sunday the 5th which means he could have ordered the tax on the 30th of last month (whilst it was still taxed) which means he could legally drive the car for 5 working day whilst waiting for the new tax disk to arrive.

Im not saying this is how it happened but he could have done nothing wrong and footed a big bill for it.

LOL you lot are harsh failing to display was all the OP had done wrong.
Fact is they towed away (and then charged him) for not having insurance when he did.

That insurance database is not infallible and yet the police treat it as if its 100% accurate when it is not and they acknowledge this

He hasn't said he ordered the tax before the end of the month and he's had plenty of chances to say so, so everyone is assuming he didn't.
But if he did and he wasn't in possession of the disk on Sunday the 5th, he still couldn't have legally used it on Monday the 6th to go to work, which seems to be one of his complaints.

Except the buying online before the end of the month bit which gives you 5 days grace if you are still displaying the old disk.
