you can get 4 stud mondeo steelo wheels, quite hard to find but they are out there,
i used a set on a 4x4 cossy estate i built a few years ago, proper sleeper
dont know much about st170's so i'm assuming these will clear standard brakes

if you are only fitting two, watch the back end as it will have a tendency to slide out when you dont expect it (talking from experience a few years back )Have a look at a set of cheap ford oem alloys to put the tyres on you will need 16" i think to clear the brakes

The car is fine once on the move its just that we have struggled to get it out of our estate this time so would like some narrower winter wheels for the front.

Don't know if they'd clear your brakes, but all mk1 and 2 mondy were 4 stud, and most had steel spares, I know my dads one is a 15" steel.
Nokian Hakkapeliitta are the kiddies to have, but very pricey, hankook icebear are the best for the money imo.

You need a minimum of 16" wheels to cover ST170 brakes so you are very much stuck if you want to use steelies as I 'think' mk1/2 Mondeo (so 4 stud) steelies only came up in 15's.

Your space saver is very skinny and 16"..........aquire another one of those and 2 sets of steel wheel nuts? If the weather's bad enough to warrant putting them on you're certainly not going to be exceeding 50mph are ya.
