When there's something I really want to watch and I remember about it 5 minutes before it starts and i'm out somewhere - just go onto the Sky+ app and tell it I want to record. Ta-dah, it's recorded and waiting when I get home
Ebay
Pretty obvious, but again, its nice to get text message style alerts if you've been outbid on something, especially if you're not near a computer all day every day.

As the iPhone finds it hard to believe you might want to send the same text to a large group of people

Everyone needs to be able to tell a current affairs joke just that little bit too soon

IG Index - Actually quicker and easier to use than the "proper" site.
Sky Sports Football Score Centre - Lets you choose "your" teams, plus instant access to all other scores, league tables, fixtures etc.
TV Guide - Quick and easy guide for virtually all channels at a glance as a list or in grid form, can scroll up and down channels individually with synopsis too. Very handy
Shazam - Useful if you hear a song on an advert of something and it bugs you for ages what it's called, this puts a stop to that
Google - I know it's easy enough to use the proper online Google site, but this is even quicker and easier, with voice controls too without having to "teach" it, and is quite accurate unless you have a daft accent
Twitter - Again, I find this simpler and easier to follow than proper online Twitter
Around Me - Quick and easy way of finding things wherever you are if you're not familiar with the area.
Currency Converter - Very useful and accurate for buying things online from any country
The Moron Test - Is a good laugh
Amazon - Very good app, takes the "fiddliness" out of using the proper Amazon site on your phone.
Met Office - The most comprehensive weather app by far
Torch - Very useful, can use either the screen or the camera flash, which is nice and bright
Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars - Controls can be slightly awkward, but by far the best game on there
Trapster - Very good speed camera detector

It does according to Apple - and seeing as it's more than likely them that honours the warranty it isn't a wise idea - Obviously restoring it to 'standard' before you take it in gets round it, but if the phone locks up I wouldn't fancy my chances of them agreeing to fix it.

As you correctly mentioned - restoring to orginal will return the phone to stock.
I would also wager if you have to return the phone under warrenty , for whatever reason - then the apple bod in the shop will not be able to detect if it has been jailbroken or unlocked.
oh and legally speaking its not illegal except to circumvent copy protection or infring on copyright
Over here we have a far more tangled set of rules and regulations, thanks to the intervention of the European Union. The relevant EU directive essentially says that breaking "technical protection" (i.e. DRM) on software is fine, as long as you're not doing it for the purposes of infringing copyright (i.e. playing pirated games).
But that's Europe. In the UK, we have to ratify all of these EU directives before they become law, so the British lawmakers transposed the EU directive into British law, in the "Copyright and Related Rights Regulations 2003". That says essentially the same thing -- that it's okay to break these "technical measures" for interoperability reasons, but not for the purposes of infringing copyright.
