is a steam cleaner the best way to clean the oil and grease from an engine?

Yes but make sure you cover the electrics up propperly (dizzy etc) Oh & use Gunk

Meant to be good, uvr used pressure washer too which works very well

reading up pn the net, seems its not so

apparently Paraffin is the best way to clean ?

Ive always used parraffin. Its only a couple of quid at the most for a gallon and works much better than gunk.

now thats a fooking good post, as im gonna remove ALOT of oil from mine ,

is there a way i can clean it all back up, drain it and use again too

I used gunk on mine and jet washer worked really well.

Best to use a proper steam pressure washer and not a run of the mill cold water jobbie.

But yeah Gunk or diesel works well.

I wouldn't go anywere near my engine bay with a steam cleaner
I just used a gunk copy.

i used halfords stuff and managed to take off most or the paint from my rocker cover
but also bought a small steam cleaner off sky about a year ago and that works fine just takes forever

cover electric bits (ign amp / coil / map sensor / the connectors for these things) soak it in gunk or similar - leave a couple of hours then blast the c**t with a high pressure washer (wearing eye protection) leave the other sensors (crank pos / temp / etc) for 3 hours, and hey presto, the moisture in the air will have cuased rust to start, but no oil present!
