Default Help with interior design ideas. Pics to inspire?

My Mrs left the bath full of water after bathing the kids a couple nights back and we think number 3 turned the tap on because next thing she knew there was water pouring out the light fitting downstairs.

Upstairs the bathroom is fucked. Floor boards are obviously DRENCHED. This came out on to the upper hall landing and ruined the carpet and floor boards.
Downstairs the hall walls, coving, roof are soaking and stained.

There is a guy there today assessing the damage and taking readings of damp. Whatever the scale is, 16 should be normal, we're at 100

So, the house insurance will be providing a new stair and upstairs hall carpet which is all one, and they will repaint the hall downstairs which means it has to be done right upstairs too as it's all the same.

Now anyone got any good/sensible ideas for colours to paint the hall and have the carpet?

The downstairs hall is quite big and we have fairly dark proper wood flooring down.

Tbh I don't know where to start and wondered if anyone has done something nice at home and can show me colour combo's.

Mal., maybe you could ask your lad. Surely he does interior design?!?

I'm boring, plain white walls and biscuit/seagrass carpets where there's no wooden/laminate.

I love a good interior design thread though as our house is so blank, I'm going back and changing bits as we go along.

With the football team of kids you're building though, I'd be seriously tempted to get the carpet with the roads on for toy cars. In fact, I'm tempted anyway!

Genuinely LMFAO Grant!!!

This is coming from the 'man' who lovingly makes a giant cock out of snow for his mum, and films it...

And Choppy, I know you loves me bud, and I think it's sweet and all... but I just don't like men like that! Sorry.

You mean you don't like men like Interior designers? You prefer the rugged ones who work on oil rigs, have hairy arse cracks and like to play rape?

I'm just trying to find out your type. I don't work on an oil rig but I fit the bill with your other criteria!

Anyway, to add a little bit on topic for Chop. Has anyone got those sparkly tiles in their bathroom? I don't know what they're called but my future mother in law is having a new kitchen and her work surface has the sparkles in it and it looks the shizzle!

Didn't want to quote all your pics. It looks fantastic though! How much for tiles and a tiler to do them? Tilers are not cheap!

I bought 1k's worth of tiles for dstairs bathroom walls and floor and our kitchen and utility room which is quite big. The tiling was going to be done FOC from a good mate but can't be now I've had silly quotes to do the tiling but it is a large area.

The afore mentioned tiles for my kitchen and utility room floor are sparkly granite sorta tiles. They are the bollocks! They don't look so cool stacked in the garage though

Mal. will come and help you carry them!

Then he can help with some frenzied laying and a jolly good bit of angry grouting.

So you can't have the same tiles in the kitchen as the bathroom? I spose you don't want the missus getting confused and trying to cook your breakfast in the shower.

120?!?!?! fuck! My mate works in London and is a top tiler that has won awards. He said his time would be free but his old tiler helper from Aberdeen would need 150 and he'd usually be 400!!!!

I don't believe there are awards for tiling. Although I am very, very good. So good in fact, I just tiled my christmas tree.

[see pic above as I can't be arsed to do it again ]

Let's not fuck this thread up, I want to see inspirational pics as well!

That's not gay.

I'll give the bathroom a clean as I've been working on it to give you an idea but I used travertine tiles throughout, look stunning but not very robust or easy to work with, cracked very easily, nice and safe with the kids though as their not slippery at all even when very wet.

I've got the big 600x600 in my kitchen in high gloss black, only b&q specials but their really good tiles,I've dropped loads on them and they've never chipped or cracked,I've dropped tools, big pots and pans etc.

Said kitchen

Said tiles, bastards to keep clean though as you can see from my impromptu effort at mopping!!!

Hall, stairs landing etc I'd stick to light colours and carpets,I've been working on mine the last few weeks and it's nearly done.I'm gutted I didn't take before and after photos as it was so fucking dire before that it was a total fucking embarrassment.

Its been a massive job as the more I looked into it,the more shit I found wrong, had to plaster the bathroom outer wall, hall ceiling, cove the fucking lot, strip back the horrific 70's wallpaper, strip back the appalling paint on the stairs cos some CUNT painted it in emulsion????

I've left some stripped and varnished wood and glossed the rest which I'm very pleased with,it looks good IMO.

Iirc you've got a lovely looking house, looks pretty modern as well so personally I wouldn't go too ott with the colours as it could look really out of place.

Cheers mat,all my own work bar the worktop fitting, mitres have never been my strong point!!!

Wasn't too expensive either,I'd say all in about £7k but a huge amount saved in labour costs.

It's tiled under the units as well, wall to wall and there's another section to it here.

It's near enough identical the other side.
I knocked the wall down one day off night shift just cos it was pissing me off really so we could make it a kitchen/diner affair, gives you an idea here.

Still loads to be done on the house but I'm off work now not through choice but lack of job so I'm trying to get the jobs sorted, should be done by 2025!!!!
